Help! Exchange of wedding gift from Bride & Groom

I've heard that it's traditional to exchange wedding gifts between the bride and groom. Who else has heard the same thing?

And, what ideas can you give for my gift to my groom. I already bought him an expensive watch as an engagement gift a few months ago. After we got my engagement ring. (Yes, I picked it out with him and it's a lovely princess cut diamond solitaire.)

I don't mind getting him another gift if that's customary but I'm not sure what to get. I'm kind of on a budget now since we are sharing wedding costs. Any ideas?

And, also should I insist that he should get me a gift as well. Maybe put a price cap on it. This is all a bit awkward.

He believes our wedding gift is each other. And, I think so too for the most part. But who doesn't like another gift.

I gave DH an engraved bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. There are pics in my non pro pics album.

DH had the florist that was doing our wedding flowers deliver two dozen white roses to me that morning.

You don't HAVE to. DH and I didn't. We said the wedding was our gift to each other since we paid for it. But if you want to get him a gift, how about a nice pair of engraved cufflinks he can wear that day?

I am thinking of renting my fiance his 'dream' car for the weekend of the wedding. If we were getting married in the spring though I would have 'gifted' him a round of golf the morning of our wedding :) If you have your honeymoon booked maybe you can call the resort and set up a surprise couple massage for you both or something like that.

I am getting him something small and meaningful, but you dont have to.

It can be something like you met at a bar, so you give him a flask. Your first date was italian so for your first dinner home you are taking him to an italiam restaurant.

You can think of small things that are meaningful and not cost a lot.

you do not HAVE to exchange gifts & we are not.

we each purchased the others wedding band. my FHs wedding band was $1,600, while i have no problem spending that amount of money, i am NOT purchasing another gift.

We're not doing it either. I am buying his ring though.

We honestly already have our house and most things we need. We'll pay for the wedding, enjoy our day and our honeymoon and that's it.

You don't have to exchange gifts, but I wanted to. I got him a nice watch and monogrammed cufflinks to wear the day of.

Why not just get him a card with a little love letter from you inside?

i don't think you have to exchange gifts if you dont' want to. I'm thinking of doing it only b/c FH looooooves basketball and we are getting married during bball season so i'm going to get him LAKERs tickets (his fav team) for when they play NY or NJ.

The sweetest thing I saw was one of my friend's got a txt msg the morning of her wedding from her FH with a photo of 2 old-fashioned rocking chairs for their wrap around porch and a sweet msg saying something on the lines that they could sit on their porch and grow old together. I thought it was soooo sweet!

We didnt exchange altho I had originally planned on it... I was going to get DH a flying lesson at the airport in Farmingdale... And then once I heard he had no intentions of getting me anything, I nixed the idea... Better to save the $$ anyways!!!!! If you both dont think its necessary, then why bother doing it? Because the almighty LIW forces say so? LOL

It's a traditional thing to do. Really my gifts to him are my album of B-Pics (which I plan on giving to him the night of the Rehearsal Dinner because I won't be seeing him until the wedding day) and his surprise groom's cake - which I haven't decided if I want to give it to him at the rehearsal dinner or save it for the wedding.

I think I might get him a little some for the actual day though and leave with FMIL to give to him the day of the wedding.

I didn't know what to get my FH and you just gave me a great idea. My FH loves loves his Johnny, everything we fly he has to stop at duty free and he always says he wants to get an engraved one.

I gave him a b-pic album, engraved cufflinks, and surprised him with a grooms cake during the reception. DH gave me a GC for the Elizabeth Arden Spa

You can't insist the FH, or anyone, give you a gift. I'm doing Bpics for FH and am thinking about getting him a nice watch for the wedding.

Although it would be nice, I'm not expecting anything in return and could maybe say I like something but would never outright tell him he HAS to buy me a wedding gift.

I do not think wer are doing that either. We are pretty much paying for the wedding ourselves and he also thinks that getting married is our gift to each other so he tells me not to worry about the gift stuff.

I have heard of couples doing this, but we are not. We feel we have spent enough on the wedding. We dont need gifts! LOL

Re: Help! Exchange of wedding gift from Bride & Groom

We paid for our own wedding and honeymoon so we did not exchange gifts. We splurged on our wedding bands we figured we will wear them everyday so why not get something we really LOVE! We did exchange cards on the day of the wedding.
