Re: help FH with a survey study...
Drinking should not be about age. we should be more like europeans where wine /liquor is a a drink that you have in moderation with food , social setting etc ,, americans make such a big deal out of it which is why i think we have all these problems with kids going to college and drinking like animals. if its just a part of life people would not abuse it when they finnally get there hands on it

Re: help FH with a survey study...
I think part of the appeal with 'binge' drinking is that it's forbidden. Also, because we have such strict laws about it, unfortunately our young people aren't being taught about moderation.
I say this as someone who was hanging out in bars at 16 (the drinking age was only 19 then and it wasn't enforced).

Re: help FH with a survey study...
I agree with what both of the ladies said above. Kids start drinking way before 21 and like Dana said they wouldn't go so crazy for it if it was something that was not forbidden. JMO

Good point, if the legal drinking age were to be 25, i think it would make it even more of a forbidden thing and more of an appeal to it, and causing more binge drinking. Plus 25 is a bit old to make as the legal age. I know when i was 23-24 it would've been ridiculous to say we can't have drinks.

Re: help FH with a survey study...
i think the opposite and the drinking age should be 18. if a man can fight in a war and make a decision about who should be president at 18 then he should be able to have a drink as well

Re: help FH with a survey study...
i voted for no. you can raise the drinking age to 40 but people are still gonna be able to get it from somewhere. When I was 16 Iwas able to get it from people. I dont think it matters if yo raise it or not people can still be irresponsible no matter what age

Re: help FH with a survey study...
as it is, drinking age doesn't have much of an impact on actual drinking so much as it just cuts back on sanctioned ways--driving young people to litter and loiter in public parks and parking lots, not to mention seriously hurting volume and profits for a huge market of small businesses (i.e. bars and restaurants).

Re: help FH with a survey study...
I don't think age has that much to do with it. . I think it's education and communication. .. besides - people are often so on their own by 25 - meaning I had graduated college and started teaching junior high by the time I was 20. . so the thought I could teach kids but NOT have a drink for another 5 years is ridic!!!. plus ITA with others. . if you can vote, and 'serve your country' then how could a drink be wrong.. .
