help from moms! friend's water broke...2 months early!!
OK...so I just got a call from my mom...the girl that I grew up next to's water broke (her shower was Sunday...and is now cancelled)
she was just about at 32 weeks...
I think that I have heard that 32 is the magic number? is that right?
let me know what you guys know

FH's cousin had a baby @ 27 weeks. Shes doing great now. I think 28 weeks is viable. 32 weeks is EARLY but I think the baby should be ok.

Hopefully, the baby will be just fine! 32 weeks is early by the calendar, but it's not that early when you consider the medical advancements and technology that is available nowadays. The NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) is fully equipped to had even the frailest of human lives.
30 years ago, I was born 3 entire months early and I not only lived to tell about it, but am healthy enought to have had my own, full-term healthy baby.
I will pray for your friend and her child, Erica! I am sure it is an unnerving time for friends and family, but I am sure everything will be fine!

I am not sure of the details, but I have read about fluid that can be injected if you're water breaks too early. 32 weeks is not so bad these days so it may not be considered too early. If she has not gone into labor maybe she will be put on bedrest, hospitalized, and injected with fluid. Best wishes to mom and baby.

I think she has a very good chance of her baby being fine. My friend delivered twins at 27.5 weeks, and they are 10 months old now and doing great.

I gree. 32 weeks is early, but everything should be okay. With all the technology they have nowadays they say anything after 28 weeks is okay. I delivered Justin 19 days early nd I was nervous about that, my doctor was laughing at me, telling me to be relieved it was finally over with.

my cousin had her baby 3 months early - she was about 3 pounds at birth and then dropped weight. It was touch and go for awhile - she spent at least a month or two in the hospital, but in the end everything worked out fine. She'll be 2 in May
I'll be hoping your friend gets as lucky.

I hope everything goes okay. I am sure that the doctors and nurses will be able to make sure that your friend delilvers a healthy, bouncing baby. Keep us informed.

well...she's still in the hospital...they are trying to stop labor (I guess someone mentioned drugs to stop labor after the water breaks)
the baby is 4#6oz...right now...

4 lb 6 oz is actually not that small for the # of weeks in the pregnany - your friend is very lucky!
One of my friends went into pre-term labor (w/o water breaking) with both of her children and she had to be in the hospital for a little while and her doctors used medication to help her 'hold the baby' a bit longer. However, I'd be very surprised if your friend's doctors would keep that up for very long - once the water breaks, the baby is at risk for infection, so they will probably deliver soon.

I was also a preemie 30something years ago and look at me now!! They didn't have half the technology that they have now, so I think the chances are on your friend's side!! And one of my friends had her daughter 11 weeks early and she was born at 1 lb. and she's a healthy happy 10 year old!!!
