Do I have to invite the boss (& co-workers)or not?
... I have been at my job about 2.5 years. I get along with the boss ok. It's not like we hang out after work or anything though. Same goes for the co-workers.
However - one of the guys in my dept. just got married (on Sunday) and invited the boss and a few of the other people... They're all talking about it. So now I kinda feel like I am supposed to send out some invites also.
What do you suggest? Thanks!

I think you can omit work people- if you spread it around you are on a budget and have a large family, etc. Basically implyign there is no room for anyone else.

I only invited those I was close too, I didn't invite my boss (he wasn't offended) I invited 4 out of about 15 co-workers. If I'm not friends with the people why would I want them to share the most important day of my life?

When money starts growing on trees then I'll invite my boss coworkers, mailman and hairdresser.
ETA: The general rule of thumb is if you wouldn't have them over your house for dinner (for those not related that is) you don't have to invite them.

I have also changed jobs twice in the last few years...I actually invited just a few from each. Only those I was really close with...BUT if I had to cut my list - those would be the first to go!!
I think it depends on your budget and your relationship. There should be no obligation.

I'm inviting my boss and the only other person in my department, but I've been working with them both for almost 9 years.
I agree though that it is not necessary to invite work people. Especially if you are on a budget.

I think if you invite co workers, it's just a courtesy to invite your boss (unless of course you don't get along !) But if you're not particularly friendly w/ anyone in the office, and you didn't have any intention of inviting anyone. - you DEFINITELY are NOT obligated !!!

You do not have to invite your bosss. I am inviting mine because she wants to come. She is very excited for me. (And she makes a crap load of money so I am expecting a sizable *bonus* from her)...lol!

Re: Help from the Etiquette Police please?
I invited my co-workers. I work in a small office - three people plus me, and my two bosses. I love my co-workers, and we talk about my wedding ALL the time, so I couldn't imagine them not being there. I felt I couldn't invite my co-workers and not my bosses - and in any case, I like my bosses, too, and they're excited for me. So, I invited the whole office. I think it depends, though, on the size of your office, and how close you are with your co-workers. The bigger the office, I think, the easier you can invite some and not all. However, if you're inviting co-workers, and if you can, I would invite the boss, unless you're SURE she or he wouldn't be offended.
