help- gap between church and reception

how is everyone handling the 1-2 hour gap between the church and reception? Do you have guests going back to someones house, or are you doing pictures before the church so that the reception can start right after?

Are you have a receiving line and coming out of the church and having things tossed..like rice etc?? that eats up some of the gap. Ask you reception hall if there is some where for your guest to go there if they arrive early.. what is the travel time between church and reception hall?

Check those things out first. Good luck!

I plan on having our pictures taken with the bridal party during that time.

I have a much larger gap than 1-2 hours. Our mass starts at 2 and our cocktail hour isn't until 7:30. The BP will come with FH and I to take pictures while my parents have a low-key thing at their house.

I have the same issue. I am going to rent out rooms at the Holiday Inn next door to Chateau Briand and have some refreshments there- this way there will be aplace that people can go and relax in between

We have a 2 hour, maybe even 2.5 hour gap. We're not doing anything. My FILs were considering having people back to their house, but the church is in a quaint little town and all of the recently married couples we know said NOT to worry about entertaining them - they're all adults and thy can figure something out in town for a bit.

Nothing, the guests can find something to do in that time. A majority live locally, or will be at a local hotel, so they can go back to their house/hotel room and relax and change and get ready for the evening! I've never been to a wedding where anything has been done in that gap to entertain guests.
But definitely ask your RH what they do if some guests show up early, b/c there will always be a few early birds.

I agree. I've gone to the church, then gone home, done my usual errands, take a shower and got ready for the reception during the gap.

For weddings that were out of town with a big gap, I usually skipped the church and just went to the reception.

this seems to be a common issue. I've never been to a wedding where there was a gap... we always were able to go straight to the reception... hmmm. I wonder if this will happen to me.

Same issue here. My parents are doing the same thing, just for my family, FH's family will have to figure something out.
