Help! Going to a Wedding, $$ gift amount???
Okay, just wanted to get some feedback. Going to a Casual (not longtime) friends wedding, who came to our August wedding....they gave us a check...should we give them the same amount back....We're also giving them a framed 4x6 picture that our photographer took of them.

Well, I would give the same back, minus the cost of the framed gift...

Re: Help! Going to a Wedding, $$ gift amount???
If it were a close friend, I would give the same amount in addition to the framed gift. But, since it's not a close friend, I wouldn't...

okay, I guess giving the same amount plus the frame is the majority...does the fact that the reception site they are having it at is less costly than our wedding reception have an influence on our gift amount? just wondering.

I don't think the cost amount of the plate should have any bearing on how much you should give. That I think is tacky.

Well, that's often a topic of great debate over here.
In my opinion, it does and this is why I feel that way:
My cousin eloped. When he came back, his parents had a party for him at their house.
I felt that the gift giving for his wedding would be a bit less because we never really were guests at a wedding- we ate dinner at my aunt's house. Versus, a sit down dinner at a hall where great expenses were paid for food, drink, entertainment, etc.
*This is only my opinion. I do not profess it to be gospel nor do I take any issue with anyone who disagrees with me...*

Absolutely not! If anything, it means they probably need the money more!
I'd give the same amount plus the frame.

Re: Help! Going to a Wedding, $$ gift amount???
Okay, just wondering if thats something to consider or should have no bearing on the gift amount. I of course want to make sure both our plates are covered....I most likely feel the most comfortable giving them the same amount plus the frame.

Re: Help! Going to a Wedding, $$ gift amount???
I would give them same amount. If I looked at it as covering the cost of my plate then I must have jipped my friend who got married at the Four Seasons... I'm not sure if my yearly salary covered the cost of my plate at that wedding... it was unbelievably beautiful but they went way overboard.

Re: Help! Going to a Wedding, $$ gift amount???
It really shouldn't make a difference how much you give. You give what you can afford to give even if it is more or less than what was given to you.

Re: Help! Going to a Wedding, $$ gift amount???
I always think that a good rule of thumb is to give $100 if you are going alone and give $200 if you are taking a date.If the couple is more important to you than that (like a best friend or close relative then give a little bit more).
