help- good parts of Massapequa/ Farmingdale/ Levittown??
My sis & BIL are looking for a house, they currently live in West Hempstead and are searching for a descent sized house hopefully under 450K that most importantly is in a good school district for my niece.
They're looking into Massapequa, Farmingdale, Levittown and Bellmore.
Where are the good schools, and quieter parts of these neighborhoods?? Any recommendations would be great!! She's doing some research too, but I'm just trying to help her out. TIA!!

i live in farmingdale and it's def. changed over the years---lots of junk going on in the HS (fights, etc) from what i understand....massapequa is great, stay away from the water because it jacks up property tax....stay north of sunrise highway....good luck!

I grew up in Massapequa and love it! Just as was said as far as schools... East Massapequa can be considered Amityville school district and North Massapequa can be considered Plainedge school district... so make sure that they ask about the cut off for the school district!
I would also make sure they look into the distance they are from the schools their children would be attending because the cut off to start bus service is a mile, and I know some of my friends who had to walk almost a mile to high school in the winter because they did not make the cut off for bus service and had no other way of getting to school!
I live North of Sunrise Hwy, but I am still in the Massapequa School district by East Lake Elementary school... I don't know if i'm just biased but I love my neigborhood!

In Levittown I think there are really 2 school districts - - Levittown for part of it which also includes some of the homes in North Wantagh, and also Island Trees School District. When I was looking for a house in 1998-99, the Levittown district taxes Seemed to be higher than other places so you might want to see if that is still true. I think island Trees is a good district. 3 of my cousins have kids there and stayed in the area because of the schools. The area around Kohl's and Target on Hempstead turnpike are in Island Trees. Wantagh schools are good too.

I live in Levittown - just moved here. I love it! There are actually 3 school districts in Levittown the two the above poster mentioned and east meadow! When I was looking taxes weren't that different b/t the schools. I wouldn't do farmingdale in my opinion and the nicer areas of massapequa are not going to be under 450 for a decent house!

I like all of them. There are so good and bad part in Farmingdale.
Of the 3, Massapequa is really nice but the pricest.

I grew up in all those areas. I can tell you that the levittown school system is great, its a very safe area, and conveniently near everything. definitely a good place to raise a family. i am not aware of any bad areas of Levittown, and ive walked most of the streets of that town as a child!
As for farmingdale and massapequa, i am less familiar with their school systems other than knowing some very smart people who went to their schools and became very successful. There are definitely good and 'less good' areas. i know for a fact that north massapquea is very good and safe. i dont recall and areas as absolutely horrible though. either way, those are great affordable towns to settle in.

parts of north massapequa go to farmingdale, so if you are looking in N. massapequa and don't want farmingdale schools be careful.
I went to farmingdale, I turned out fine. The elementary schools are great, so is the middle school. the HS is OK- i never felt unsafe, but I graduated a while ago. Massapequa probably has the best reputation out of the other districts.

I live in Levittown right now, and we're hoping to live here when we buy our own home in a few years. As a recent graduate of the schools (I'm young ), I can say that I thought the schools were wonderful. They have been getting better as the years go by. It's a safe, cute little town & with Hempstead Tpke running through it, it's very convenient to get everyewhere.

I grew up in Massapequa-Basic Rule used to be Carmens Road and east goes to Amityville. North of Jerusalem goes to Plainedge. I loved growing up in Massapequa. There are 5 or so elementary schools-1 Junior High and 1 HS-all very good schools-but you pay for that in taxes. You may be able to find a house in your price range just don't waste time looking south of Merrick Rd b/c those are definately more expensive.
