HELP!! GOWN SEARCH NIGHTMARE!!

HELP!! GOWN SEARCH NIGHTMARE!!

I went to David's bridal in Lakegrove on Sunday and it was a nightmare. Everything I told them I didn't like they brought over to me. I had a list of gowns that they had listed online as plus size but they told me they didn't have any of them. The consultant I was working with disappeared and left me standing in the same dress for 45mins. Than the Manager came over and was attacking. She kept trying to push dresses I didn't like on me. I left crying. It was so frustrating. I went over to Macy's bridal Salon After that. It was one of my bridesmaids ideas. She was hoping we could end the day on a more positive note. They are some of the poliest and most helpful sales people. The did not have much in th way of plus size but i did try on 4 dresses. Th 3rd one i tried on I really like but it had almost no train and no beading. The manager pulled a dress that se thought i would like, however they did not have it in m size to try on. The dress was amazing!! The manager offered to have a demo dress transferred from Illonis in my size so i could see if the dress work for me. It was a fee of 50$ that is transferrable to the down payment of any dress in the store. In my case b/c the selection was so small the manager said that if it turns out that I don't get my dress from Macy's they will refund me the money. So as you can see I'm not havng the greatest luck looking for a dress. My mom said se heard about a place in bellmore that specailized in plus size bridal gowns. Does anyne know the name or the website?

I haven't gone dress shopping yet - but Lillette's (used to be in Baldwin and now Bellmore) apparently has a bunch of plus sized gowns to try on. I am a plus size girl and when I start my dress searching I am going to try there.

Re: HELP!! GOWN SEARCH NIGHTMARE!!

I´m so sorry to hear about your experiences!! I´ve heard quite a few negative things about that Davids Bridal location. If you still want to look at the Davids Bridal dresses I would suggest the one in the Source Mall. I went in with two of my girls, both plus size. They had all different sizes in the dresses. Wile I am not plus size, I am a very indecisive person. I went in they let me go through a catalog marking all the dresses I like and theyn pulled ALL of them. I must´ve tried on at least 20 dresses if not more. They were all different sizes. They do offer some that are not what you are looking for if they think it would look good but I would say at least try them on.

There was one dress she pulled that when my sister and I looked at it we looked at each other and cringed!! I tried it on anyway because I was waiting for other dresses and it looked so nice on me!! I almost got that one but there was somehting I wasn´t 100% sure on.

Also, I went in saying anything but strapless, minimal or no train and not too much beading. I am usually a very simple person. The dress I ended up getting is strapless has a train (not exaggerated either but more than I wanted) and TONS of Beading!! I love it!! The best thing is that I got it on sale!!

If I can remember her name I will post it. The lady was sooo nice. We went back to try on dresses like 3 times. I´m just moving things around now and I don´t know where anything is.

Also at the Queens one they were really nice as well but that may be too far out for you.

I got my gown at Davids Bridal in Westbury and had no trouble finding or selecting dresses. I must have tried on at least 5 when I was there.. But then again, I am on the smaller end of the plus-size line - my gown is a size 18 (my street size is 14/16).

I've said it a hundred times, but when I went to DB in WEstbury with my friend who was getting married, we had mediocre service and when I went back to pick up my BM gown, they were rude and rushed me out of the store and the store was empty. Good luck with them, they seem to be hit and miss.

There's a plus size thread on here with recommendations on plus size bridal salons. I'll bump it for you.

I would look into the Davids Bridal in Massapequa. That is where I got my dress and the bridesmaid dresses and they were helpful. Don't let this get you down, every bride has good and bad experiences.

Re: HELP!! GOWN SEARCH NIGHTMARE!!

I haven't gone dress shopping yet but my future sister in law got her dress at the Macy's salon (the lakegrove one as well - and yes she is getting married 2 months before me - haha) I would avoid David's Bridal, I have never had a good experience with them. For my prom (I know silly) the dress I got had a hole in it (very fixable) and they would not fix it or take money off the dress. They weren't helpful, understanding, or anything so I could not imagine getting my wedding dress from them and dealing with that. So everybody AVOID them!!

I wish you better luck, I am so anxious about dress shopping! Thank goodness though you found solice at Macy's, women should help other women like they did!

ITA ...My BM got their dresses from there & I also tried on dresses. Collatta (sp?) was helping me, she was honest & not pushing me at all, she even showed me the new arrivals before I asked.

This was a really bad experience for you, I blame that location & your attendant. Plz dont give up. Sorry you had to go through this
