HELP... Guarantee question!

HELP... Guarantee question!

So my question is this...

We guaranteed 175 guests at FF. Judging from the LACK of RSVP's I feel my total numbers will be off by about 25 guests. I therefore want to drop the guarantee to 150.

All my paperwork says that you can change the amount of guests up until July 25th, after date is says 'there will be no decrease to guest totals'. Am I crazy or doesn't that mean I should be able to drop to 150?

Thoughts please!

That's what it sounds like to me. I would juct call them and make the change and ask to email it and have them confirm you request so you have it in writting from them.

When do you have to give your final head count? Is it July 25th? It could def mean that but it might also mean you can't change the number of people you said would be there- not meaning the # of guarantee you had.

Melisa08... I think your right and I can't change the guarantee. I am just wondering with the poor wording, if they could make the 175 stick?

I just don't want to tick anyone off and then they take it out on my wedding. I'm paranoid I'm sure...

A guarantee is a guarantee you can't drop below that. So say your guarantee is 175 and you told them you would have 200... but you find out you wont you can decrease your number and go as low as the guarantee number... but no less. You might want to call your venue and see if they might be willing to work in a few extras due to you paying for 175 when they will only be serving 150. I have heard other girls on her say that some venues gave tehm a chocolate fountain or some other extra.

Its worth a try. I am afraid I will be in the same boat. I needed to guarantee 150 and we are only inviting 170 and many are OOT.

Good luck!!

So frustrating! People really s*!k.

I did everything I was supposed to bride wise. I even went 25% OVER my guarantee to avoid this. Honestly I am so mad. Not to mention half of the people have yet to send back their RSVPS and the deadline is this week.

AGGGGHHHH.

Good idea on the upgrades though.

I know it must be frustrating... but don't stress. You will have sooo much fun and all the people that you truly care about wouldn't miss it. There are always those s**ky peple.... just put them out of your head.

Maybe have your MOH or Best Man start making some phone calls to those who have not responded. That will help you get a more accurate number.

Good luck!!!!

its real hard to get a hall to lower your minimum especially so close to the wedding

but tell them to throw in things, maybe you'll be able to get some great things you would love

The lawyer in me says that's your loophole . . . that after that date, there's no decrease . . . meaning up to that date, you can decrease.

I'm sure that's not what they meant, but it can be read that way, and in fact, in literal terms DOES read that way. See what they say, but if you wanted to push the issue, that wording opens the door wide for you .. . .

You can also always play 'nice' and tell them that you read the contract, and understand you can reduce your guest number, but would really rather offset the extra funds with some 'extras' . . . . meaning, you are reading the contract to give you the upper hand, but will accept some 'freebies' rather than not paying them the guaranteed amount.

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending what side you're on, a guarantee is not a guarantee . . . . especially when there are conditional or even better, ambiguous terms added in that can 'go either way.'

Work with it.
