Help! Having second thoughts about my reception hall!!
Hi! So i need HONEST opinions! pros and cons. My FH and I recently booked our September, 2011 wedding at The Woodlands. Initially we fell in love with its historic charm but the more I sit and think about it, the more I am second guessing our choice!! My biggest fear is that my guests will feel that the hall is too dark and dated.
I need advice! honest advice!

Oh Lisa ... Dark and dated? Far from the contrary! The Woodlands has old historic charm. Its rich dark wood walls give a sense of prestige but just a few tucks of the curtains and there is a beautiful view that is simply breathtaking. I am not sure what time of year your wedding is but how beautiful would it be for your guests to go outside and see the lush greens on their outdoor brick patio. I think one of the best parts is driving down the treelined path coming up straight to this beautiful historic home.
Do NOT second guess! Its just beautiful, really! It was one of the places we looked at ourselves! We didnt opt for it as I strongly disliked the woman who showed us around and she turned me off. Best yet they work with you on the price!

I went through the same thing. Sometimes I still second guess myself. FH and I love the hall but I was afraid my guests would think it wasn't fancy enough. It comes down to what you and your fiance like. You booked it because you liked it when you saw it.
I have never visited your RH so I can't give you any opinios but don't worry about what others will think. All your guest will be happy for you on your wedding day. You will drive yourself crazy if you constantly think about it. Try to only think of the reasons why wyou chose it in the first place.

omg the woodlands is AMAZING! My coworker got married there and a client as well and people are still talking about it.
Don't second guess it.
Now...if you think it's too dark, you could always speak to a dj about lighting, but honestly that place is gorgeous and classy.

I have never been there but just think about the things that made you book with them in the first place. Maybe take a trip there this year during the time you will be getting married. That way you can get an idea on how everything will look for your wedding day.

i've never been there before but i can tell you that it is normal to second guess your decision about everything during this wedding planning process. its normal, but you really do have to sit back and think of all the reasons why you fell in love with it in the first place. don't let what other people may or may not think impact your decision. you chose it because you both loved it. you imagined yourselves there on your wedding day. sit back and enjoy it!

The Woodlands is one of the places we looked at. I think it is beautiful there... If you feel like it may be too dark, maybe change the time to earlier in the day (if possivle), for more natrual lighting. Ask your DJ to add uplighting, and do lots of candles.

hi Lisa,
I'm booked at the Woodlands too (so obviously I'm biased), but I think its such a gorgeous and classy place! Before we booked, I couldn't get it out of my head, I kept thinking about it and hoping that we could get married there. After we booked, I was second guessing myself too...when I would go thru those moments of 2nd guessing, I would just remember why I fell in love with the place from the beginning: one wedding at a time so different looking from other halls/not a catering hall type I hear the food is amazing (i've had some of the passed hors dourves (sp?) and they were great!) also heard the service is great not many ppl that I knew had heard of it (which is a huge plus in my book since we were looking for something a little different) I honestly think that its a beautiful venue and every time I see pix, I fall more and more in love with the place. I personally feel that my guests will be impressed, but if they're not, it really doesn't matter bc the day should be about what you and your FH want. If you're second guessing bc you're worried about what other ppl will think, don't. You can never please everyone...ppl will have something to say no matter how hard you try, so go with what you love! hope this helps!

i absolutely think it's normal to second guess your decision! i especially worried about my choice since i booked the first place i visited. once i went back for a second look, i remembered why i fell in love with it. see if you can stop by for a visit....if you get the same feeling you did when you booked, you know you picked correctly!
the other girls had some great suggestions about using candles and uplighting to 'brighten up' the room if you're really that concerned about it. personally, i think a warm, cozy room in the fall is to die for!

I also second guessed my choice, it is totally normal!!!!!!!!!! The day will be amazing, please don't worry. Seriously, lighting is such an easy fix to the problem.

It's totally normal to second guess decisions you make along the way. Although I never saw the Woodlands in person, I have seen many pics and it is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you but not sure how excellent their service is at this point...that's the only item they need to work on...

I read thru the 2010 woodlands thread every now and then and it seems like their service is slacking - I'm sorry to hear that and I really hope it gets better esp with your wedding being in only a few months!
