Re: Help- How do you make broccoli?
you can steam it two ways...
one if you have one of those metal steamers, you put a bit of water in a pot, place the steamer in, but the broccoli in, cover the pot and cook until tender
or the way my mom steams things is she puts a bit of water in a microwavable dish, buts the veggies in, covers with plastic wrap and pops it in the microwave for a couple of minutes...

Re: Help- How do you make broccoli?
lol....i don't know how to steam it either - but i have sitr fried it with other veggies!!! ....in fact, just last week i learned how ot use my broiler (amazing - one can find it on top of the oven....i never used the drawer under my over thinking that was the broiler...duh!....but in my defense i had an oven from the 1800's in my old apt where it was really on the bottom!)
i never knew what it was until my grandma explained to me how exactly to use it! it always just sat at the back of our cabinet!!!

Re: Help- How do you make broccoli?
I put mine (fresh or frozen) in a small saucepan with a bit of water or chicken broth (or a chicken bouillon) and some garlic and onion powder.
OR with a touch of water to steam and some fresh chopped garlic (the garlic helps make it less gassy)

Re: Help- How do you make broccoli?
I have a great way to make broccoli that is a bit different, not boring, and soo yummy. I made it at Christmas and everyone loved it, plus it is simple to make. I also do cauliflower the same way. (I don't measure anything, so these are guestimates).
This is what you need: Head of broccoli 2-3 C Vegetable broth 1/2 C Italian seasoned bread crumbs 1/2 C Romano cheese Spray butter Salt & Pepper to taste
The worst part is the chopping. I take a head of broccoli (or cauliflower) wash it and chop it up into small bite size pieces. I have a large deep skillet that I use, but you can use a pot, a frying pan, anything. I add 2-3 cups of veggie broth (I have also used chicken broth) to the brocolli and simmer until the brocolli is tender. Drain about 2/3 of the broth out.
Take the top off of the spray butter and pour about 1/4 cup into the brocolli. Add breadcrumbs and romano cheese and stir. Cook for about 2 more minutes.
Adjust spray butter, breadcrumbs, and cheese to liking. Add salt and pepper if you so desire. Enjoy!

Re: Help- How do you make broccoli?
I steam most of my veggies for the lo-cal effect. I put about two inches of chicken broth in a saucepan, cover and bring to a boil. Wash and cut the stems off and place it in a steamer (i have one that has a handle) Put it on the pot and cover. I usually time it for 4-5 minutes depending on how much broc. It's shouldn't need salt, but I put some fresh pepper to taste. When it turns a bright green it is done, or you can poke it to see if it's tender. Don't over cook it or you will lose the nutrients.

Re: Help- How do you make broccoli?
DH likes the way I make it. I cook it in a water and fresh garlic. Then when it is done, I put it in a bowl and put some olive oil over it.

Re: Help- How do you make broccoli?
I love my broccoli oven roasted. I just cut down the stems, cut flower in to large but manageable pieces, place on a baking sheet, drizzle olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook at 400 for 10 min.
