Help, I need advice about inviting people from work
OK, I have posted this once before but I am still uneasy about what I want to do.
I have worked in a small office of 6 people for less than one year. By the time I will be ready to send out my invites there may be possibly 8 or 9 people working there, as they are hiring 2 others.
I have a dilemma. At first, I was going to invite everyone I work with with a guest (6 x2 = 12 people = one table). BUT, the more and more I think about it, I really am not close with all of them and don't feel like wasting money on having to invite them all, especially each with guests.
My boss is awesome, so I definitely want to invite her and her husband. In my 'department' its me and 2 others. The one girl, who happens to be my manager, I can not stand! The other girl I love, and want her to go to my wedding. I am going to invite them both, with a guest also.
Althought I would love to share my day with the three other women in my office, the fact of the matter is I have not known them for that long, I don't work very closely with them, AND for me to go invite them all with guests will cost us alot of $$$$ which FH and I could really use!!!
I know I shouldn't worry about hurting people's feelings so much and that this is my decision, but still - I don't want to offend them. I think they'd understand, but you just never know.
Please, someone, any advice on what should I do? Thank you!

Could you just invite your co workers without a guest? Thats what we do in our office and my co workers spouses were actually relieved to not have to go to a wedding of someone they don't know. They had a blast at my wedding without a guest.
I think it would be awkward to not invite everyone, unless you had a known difference with someone.

I would only invite with whom you are close with, but definitely invite their spouses as well.
There is no rule that you have to invite anyone from your office, but if you want to only invite ones you are close with, keep the wedding talk to a minimum when you're there.

See, thats what I was initially thinking! It turns out to be the same out of people (6) and then I get to have everyone there. Now, did you have a conversation with your co workers before hand to let them know?

Some may take not having their spouse invited as an insult. It's one thing to extend the invitation to them, let them decided if their spouses wish to come. Just my thoughts though.

I have heard that before and understand your point. Honestly, I don't know how they'd feel but based on their personalities, I think all but 1 would NOT be offended. Ughhh, this *****!!!!

It was already a known thing when I started working there from previous weddings they went to. But the first person who was getting married did initially ask them if that was OK and they were fine with it. I work with nice laid back people so they weren't offended in the slightest.
My thoughts are if you don't openly have a 'difference' with a co worker it may be awkward inviting everyone but two people. You do have to go back and work with them after and maybe they would be resentful?
You know better than me.

I work with very nice group of laid back women. They are all really sweet and I think for the most part, most of them would not care whether or not they can bring a guest.

I would invite everyone just because I wouldnt want any conflict. They can always respond no. But thats just me.... I don't think there is anything wrong with just inviting who you want to be there.

You should just talk wth them and explain that with the cost of everything you can only afford to invite them all but without guests. I am sure they won't care. My co workers were happy not to have to 'entertain' their spouses and just enjoyed hanging out with each other.

My FH is having a similar problem. He works in a small office and would like to invite everyone but ONE guy. It may all work out though because it sounds like this one guy may be fired by the time our invites go out. I will probably invite a handful of coworkers too..but probably not their spouses.

I, too think you should invite all of them. Most likely, some of them will respond 'no'. That is what happened to me. I have 15 people in my department - a few I am not that close with - but I initially asked would anyone mind if I invited w/o spouses? One guy I respect was a little hurt. So I invited w/ spouses. Out of the 15, 11 are coming w/ their spouses. And they are all ones that I am close with!
It will work out in the end. I honestly would invite them all though. You do have to work with them all for a long time!

I would just invite the 3.
Inviting work people is difficult. It really is. My boss and another colleague never even sent in the RSVP, so I've harbored some ill will toward them since then.

If I was in your position I would invite your boss and the 2 girls that work in your dept even though you're not crazy about the other one (hopefully she'll respond no heheh).
I decided not to invite none of my co-workers...they're very nice people but I's rather keep just close friends and family.

Oh and I think people should be invited with their significant others. I would feel hurt if just FH was invted to a wedding of his co-worker and Im sure he would feel the same as well. Its just not nice to invite people without their significant others...

Re: Help, I need advice about inviting people from work
I'm only inviting 2 women I work with and their husbands (obviously).
When others that I work with (that I am not inviting) ask me how the wedding plans are coming along, I try to squeeze in to the answer that we're having a small wedding and we're paying for everything ...blah blah.
That's exactly how my former boss handled it when she was engaged. she never missed the opportunity to let us know that so that we wouldn't expect an invite. I was never upset or offended by it.
some people may actually be glad you can’t invite them. It would save them $$
