Help!!! I need to cancel my photographer.... UPDATE!!!

OK, Ladies, so you are all aware that I went to see George from Right Angle and I LOOOOOVED him.. so I am booking his photographt next week and I need help as to what I should say to my current photographer..

Now mind you, I adore Dom from 12th Night but George and his photos are EXACTLY what I dreamed about for my wedding day..

I know I will lose my deposit.. what's $400 in the grand scheme of things at this point..

Any advice on what I should say?? Lies are appreciated as well!!!

UPDATE!!!

So I called and spoke with Geraldine and she was really nice.. She told me that I had to mail or fax a cancellation letter to them and that would take care of cancelling my contract..

I made sure to let them know that I think that they do wonderful work and that I was very sorry that I was cancelling them...

I feel bad, but I am going to be happier in the long run..

Be honest. From what I understand Dom is a cool person. If you are not fighting the deposit then you shouldnt worry.

Not at all.. it's in the contract.. if I had put more down, then I would reconsider..

Say that you have discussed it with FH and you guys would rather photo and video to be a combo team from the same vendor. its an easier process that way.

I agree... I met with him and he VERY understanding.... GOOD LUCK!!

You have basically three options:

Lie your arse off and say the wedding has been cancelled or postponed. You don't have to make it into a big tear-jerker, you can just say that for financial reasons or just because you guys have decided to wait on the whole marriage thing is the reason the wedding is off...

OR

You can just tell him STRAIGHT up in a written letter that, although you like his work, you now regret your decision after seeing another photog's work and that you would feel more comfortable walking away from him at this point. You can also mention that you totally understand about him keeping your deposit-- and that you are glad that at least you realized this now so he still has enough time to get another bride booked.

OR

Say that a friend of yours (who is a photog) offered to shoot your wedding for free as his gift to you and with the budget already going out of control this is something you NEED to take advantage of-- so sorry and walk!

HTH!!!! If this is what you want to do then that's fine, don't feel bad-- it's your choice and no one can tell you that you are wrong for feeling the way you do. Photography is a huge part of your wedding-- you need to the person (and what they do) SO much!!

I agree. But money is money, so you can ask them to put your deposit towards something else such as a family shoot for the Holidays or maybe a Birthday shoot. Every penny counts so they should be able to put that deposit to use.

awww.. Dani!!! Thank you for the scenarios.. we actually were going to tell him that a friend of the family was going to do it for nothing for us!!

I won't say that the wedding is cancelled bc I just feel that's a bad omen!!!

OH! I like this idea.
You could fax him a letter stating you will no longer need his services but will highly recommend him to other brides. What the H E L L will they care? They have your $400 for nothing

Yes! I'm so glad it worked out-- and even though I suggested lying lol honesty is always the best way to do it... I'm just chicken sometimes!
