Help ! Iam close to breaking down!

Hi ladies,
Its been a while since i've been on here because the problems that keep coming up has rendered me speechless but today i worked up enough nerve to post.
Long story short about 2 weeks my job tells me that i dont have enough vacation time to take for my wedding. Okay ..my boss knows that iam getting married in oct. and i submitted my time off months ago and they finally decide to tell me less that one month before my wedding??? Serioulsy what do i do?

They say that i can have the day i get married(thursday the 9th) until the following wednesday. that adds up to 5 buissness days.
Human resorces says that when i run out of sick days they pull out my vacation time to make up for it. In all my years of working i have never heard taking employees vacation hours without notice for sick/personal time. Iam going crazy looking for another job but i have less than 2 weeks to do that if iam to give my 2 weeks notice.

I need to be off a couple days before my wedding or else i will lose my mind. I have so much more to do..favors, hair trails, programs, payments. I dont know hat to do.

Do you ladies think i should just quite and continue looking for a job? Iam a nurse so i should be able to find something..but iam affraid to quite without having a back up plan. What do you think is in my best interest? Sorry sooooo long

That isn't fair at all.

I think you should try talking to them again, if they still give you a hard time, I would just quit and take a part time job someplace until you find something steady after the wedding.

Just breathe and take it easy...

that doesn't make any sense...a company cannot use an employee's vacation time unless they want to use it. They should have just marked any sick days with unpaid time. Ask your boss if you can just take the extra days unpaid, since they haven't given you enough notice. Otherwise if you are willing and capable of leaving, tell them you will. If they are going to screw you over, then i wouldn't worry about giving them 2 weeks notice!!!!

Don't worry, it will all work out!

Im sorry but I disagree with the previous posters. I am a manager so Im seeing it from your boss' side.

We alot the employees a certain number of sick/personal and vacation time. If you take too much sick/personal they MUST take it from the vacation.. Should they have informed you...ABSOLUTELY!! But it is the employees responsibility to keep track of their days and time off.

You cannot expect them to give time to people who have abused there time..not saying you abused it but if they gave you extra time...they would HAVE TO give everyone extra days.

In my office people would abuse there time and then take more days without pay.. When that got out of hand we said you take your time then you get two days without pay and then the third day you get fired.

It's a touchy subject but if you exhaust your days...you exhaust your days..

She ran out of sick time and they took the rest of the days from vacation time.

i dunno... this all just sounds like a load of crap to me. I don't care you don't have 'vacation' days left. It's your WEDDING. Any boss that would say you can't go on your HM is a jerk and I wouldn't wanna be working for them anyway. If it were ME, i'd just ask for the time off without pay. If not, then yeah - I'd definitely just quit. No way I'd keep working and miss out on my honeymoon. Hell no. Start putting in resumes in other places and work when you get back home as a married woman. That's basically what I'm doing, but that's because i'm moving to another state after the wedding. I'm leaving my job 2 weeks prior to the wedding date and not even looking for another until after I get back to my new home a week later. If it were me tho and I needed that money in the meantime, I'd check out a part time job for a little bit. Like nannying, or whatever.

I just don't get it though. We all know how much time we need for our wedding and honeymoon. It is up to US to make sure we still have that time left.. it's not the employers responsibility!!!

Companies actually do this, I'm sure it's in your employee handbook. Can you afford to take off without pay? That may be your only option. What do you have left to do? I'm not taking any time off before the wedding.

Well thanks for the break down..thats something to think about but on the other hand i asked for my time off months in advance.
If they had rejected my request for time off earlier, then they wouldnt be responsible for anything and i would have accepted that.If this had been explained to me when hired this mess could have been avoided.

I cant change the situation ..it is what it is and i just have to make the best decision for myself and my family.

I would absolutley be willing to take time without pay but they said its our policy that we dont give time off without pay. I dont know anymore ..you just cant win. again ..if i had known this sooner i would have had a better plan.

you know what tho? I actually had something kinda similar happen to me not so long ago. Me and FH live 1,700 miles away from each other, so needless to say we miss each other a LOT. Not wanting to take off so many days from work, I began visiting him on weekends. Whenever there was a Friday or a Monday off, I'd fly out there and spend a couple days, then be back in time for work. The MOST I'd take off would be a day, and I definitely had a lot of vacation/sick time because i NEVER took off otherwise. So after a little while of this, i had enough of these horrible short little weekend visits and decided that during the summer I'd like to take 2 weeks and go see him. I asked WAY in a advance (like 4 months prior) and was given the ok not long after. I figured that if it was going to be a problem, I could always shorten it to just another stupid weekend. So needless to say, I was GLAD when they gave me the full amount off!!! So it's a week before I'm supposed to leave (got my plane ticket booked, i'm packed, lesson plans are written up for my assistant) when the director tells me Never Mind. Yes, i did have some vacation time still, but I might run out. I asked if i could just use what's left and the rest not be paid for. Basically it came down to canceling my flight (nonrefundable tickets) and not taking off anymore or losing my job. Umm... easy! Obviously I chose my FH over THEM! There was no way I'd just say okay and not see my boyfriend ever again (this was before we got engaged). He will ALWAYS come before my job! And everything ended up fine in the long run. I left there, spent the ENTIRE summer with him (instead of just the original 2 weeks). And he ended up asking me to marry him within that time (good thing I went, huh?). And when I got back home, I began working another job, even tho it's only for 3 months. Then I'll be back with FH and finding something more permanent. So obviously a blessing in disguise, but i still thought it was wrong what happened. No warning. With just a week to go - either cancel plans and barely ever see him again, or fired. Hmmm.

so i hear ya! sorry this was a long response. I think i just needed to vent. lol. So you can see why I'd say - just quit

Thankyou!!! That is exactly what i was thinking. Its MY WEDDING! Why would i want to work around one of the most important days of my life. Maybe they would at least try working with me since they've known this for months now. they dont care.

i completely agree. If you were telling them this last minute, then that's one thing. But since they've known about your time off for months, I really don't agree with them trying to now take it back. Once you get the ok, that should be it.

That is why comunication is key. If an employee requests time off 6 months in advance the boss should give sufficeient time as well to reject the time off especially for a wedding. Not 3 weeks before.

WOW, why is your boss acting like such a jerk? I dont understand how he could do this to you right before your wedding! Is it all that imperitive that you be there? Can't people cover for you? I think its so mean and nasty. Who cares if its not 'company policy' the least they can do it allow you to take the days off without pay. In my opinion, that is completely heartless and I wouldnt want to work for someone who didn't think that taking off days for YOUR WEDDING was important.

Re: Help ! Iam close to breaking down!

Maybe im confused????
Is it that...you put in your days off months ago.. lets say you put in for 10 days for the wedding and honeymoon...the during the course of the months after you put the days in..you took too many days off and they had to pull from your vacation time???

If that's the case...Im not sure what the employer did wrong??? (besides not giving you a warning that your days are being exhausted)

Im truly not trying to be sarcastic..just trying to figure out what Im not getting?
