Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

My fiance and I want to go away for 12 nights for our honeymoon to some place exotic and not typical. We want to go somewhere that has a lot of activities during the day and stuff to do at night. We don't want to go anywhere in the Carribbean or Mexico. We have already been there. We have been looking into Fiji, Tahiti and Hawaii. Fiji and Tahiti don't have much to do at night past 7pm. Does anyone have any suggestions on where we can go???? We want to go somewhere exoctic. HELP! Thanks in advance

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

We are going to Africa. For our time of year, South Africa is where we chose. There are tons of activities. We decided we wanted to do a once in a lifetime trip.

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

That is like us. We want to do a once in a life time trip. We want togo some where that we wouldn't go down the line. That is why we aren't crazy about going to Hawaii. We know that we'll go there probably for our one yr. anniversary.

As fora cruise. you should go to the greek islands. there is a lot to do there at night and its so fun.

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

How about Ibiza (off the east coast of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea)? I haven't been there myself, but it looks like fun...definitely has nightlife! Maybe combine with a trip to the Costa del Sol or Fr. Riviera.

Hawaii is a nice h-moon destination. I've only been to Maui-the island is truly magical. Wish I'd been able to fit in a couple of other islands (like Kauai). The flight there is long and it can be expensive to stay/eat/play/get there. Worth it, IMO.

I've dreamed of visiting Tahiti/Fiji, the Seychelles, SE Asian islands... I don't think these places have much in the way of night life.

Hope this gives you some ideas!!

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

I had my heart set on S. Africa as well and after alor of research it just wasn't economically possible. Now we are thinking of Brazil. They have great packages and plenty to do.

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

We felt the same as you. We didn't want the carribbean because we feel it is easier to go there. We have both been to a couple islands there already.

Many of my friends went to Tahiti and it seems beautiful but not much to do. It semes like when we ask them what they did or how it was I don't get the outrageous answer you would expect. (Actually one couple recommended against it saying there is nothin gto do). We did decide on Hawaii. At first I felt like we settled but now I am sooo happy with my decision. Anyone who I talk to who wnet there raves. I hear there is a lot to do in Maui. And Kauai is gorgeous.

Other places we considered were: Costa Rica (might go there next year with friends), Brazil (changed our mind because of recent issues there), Coast of Spain (the weather in late Oct is hot enough for me), Meditteranean Cruise (again the weather issue), Canary Islands.

Also places I find interesting but FI did not consider was Australia, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

What about Monaco. Or if cold weather is o.k. and you are getting married in the summer you could do the cruise to Alaska. If we were not getting married in December, we would have done that. It looks so beautiful.

Someone I work with got married in August and he went to Rio de Janero in Brazil and said it was amazing. I could get details from him if you'd like.

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

If you are looking for exotic and night life, I think Hawaii is a better option for you than Tahiti.
Hawaii is definitely more commercial and has a lot more nightlife. We decided against Hawaii b/c we wanted something alot more remote, and a place that didn't feel like we were still at home in the States.

We chose Tahiti b/c it is the epitomy of very exotic and romantic. In terms of night time activities, dinner with Tahitian shows and dancing are the extent of what you'll find. However, we relished the quietness of the entire place - that is the whole beauty of being there. Every night of our honeymoon, we took long moonlit strolls along the beach and sat on the sand staring up at the stars. Because there isn't a lot of light on the islands, the view of the stars is the most INCREDIBLE and clear view you will ever see!

Then we retired to our overwater bungalows for some candlelit romance. It was so relaxing to fall asleep each nite to the sound of the water gently rapping against the piers....truly unforgettable! I higly recommend it, if you can afford it.

Edited to add - there are PLENTY of daytime or early evening excursions, like sunset cocktail cruises, water activities and so on. It's not as if you will have *nothing* to do during your entire trip. Personally, I preferred doing the excursions during the day, and relaxing at night.

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

One other thing I wanted to suggest...a friend of mine also went to Tahiti for her honeymoon. However, her and her husband were more into 'nightlife' and they decided it was best to only stay on Tahiti for a short time, and then continue their honeymoon in Australia...obviously, they were able to find a lot more nightlife 'down under'!!!

Just an idea...since you're in the South Pacific already....

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

You can also consider touring Ireland or Paris. Or Portugal. All are amazing- from what I have seen in books and from friends. Australia is another once in a lifetime trip.

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

My FH and I are considering Tahiti and hearing that there isn't much to do there is perfect for me!! After spending a year planning a wedding and saving up my vacation days for the wedding and honeymoon, I just want to relax, sit in the sun, walk on the beach, star watch, and chill out!! Sounds like heaven!!

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

blushingbride - you are right...the honeymoon is a very individual choice, and what you think of it has a lot to do with what your idea of beautiful and romantic is. Like Michele31 said, you could also tour Paris or Ireland, which I would love to do someday. But like you, I was not interested in spending my honeymoon sight-seeing and walking all over Europe. That is not my idea of relaxing, especially after 15 months of harried wedding planning at a long distance, no less. But for someone else, that could be their idea of heaven.

Best wishes and good luck to everyone who is still deciding...

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

I'm not sure that I would recommend Ibiza...as it does have a very good night life...I'm not sure that you want your honeymoon to be with partying 20 year olds, strung out on drugs and raving until 6 in the morning...

we went to Menorca (also one of the balleric islands in Spain) and it was beautiful...but we stayed in a section where there wasn't much of a nightlife...look into Mahon or Ciutadella on Menorca..or Mellorca...it has more action that Menorca, but not as crazy as Ibiza...

We were thinking of Costa Rica, Belize and Margarita Island (Venezuela) as well...

Re: Help in deciding on where to go for Honeymoon

i highly recommend costa rica! however, there was no nightlife where we went. i'm sure the capital (not a very nice place) has something & the all-inclusive resorts though.
