declaration of intent (When you say, 'I do') exchange of vows (We wanted to personalize vows like when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston promised to make banana milshakes for the other..) unity candle ceremony and then exchange of rings (With this ring I thee wed)
I don't know of declaration of intent is in place of exchange of vows or you are supposed to say, 'I do' right before the exchange of rings.
Help! I am so clueless!
What is your ceremony order?

Nope, that's about right.
Not overload at all - I've always seen all of those things. If you don't write your own vows, you'd usually still take vows (just the standard ones) anyway. Sounds good to me.

Ask your officiant regarding the order of things. He or she will be able to tell you.

we're doing all of that... expept we're doing a sand ceremony instead of unity candle. I was wondering the same thing, but actually don't care becasue I want to say 'i do' and I also wanna say my own vows to FH.

Whether or not you write your own vows, there is usually a declaration of intent AND vows (either unique or the standard) at ceremonies -- so I don't think it's 'vow overload' - At least, it's how I've always seen it.
