HELP - its time to dress the men...

Now that I've booked the video (thanks for the Wild Rose tip), next is tuxes. We are going to go this week to start looking and I need some help. First, if anyone knows good places and places to avoid in the Nassau area, let me know. Second, what do the fathers wear? Do they just pick their own? Third, I am wearing an ivory gown - what color shirts should the groomsmen wear? Are the groomsmen supposed to match the girls dresses or can they just be neutral? Thanks guys!!!

Re: HELP - its time to dress the men...

The GM's can match the girls dresses but they don't have to. They can have a silver/gold too. Our GM's are wearing vests with the cranberry in them that matches the BM's. FH is wearing the same vest but in platinum instead of the cranberry. The Dads are wearing the same vest but in all black. I definitely think your FH should have an ivory shirt if your dress is ivory, I hear it makes a big difference. We used Men's Warehouse and were very happy with them and they are inexpensive! Hope this helps.

Re: HELP - its time to dress the men...

Im wearing an ivory gown and I really didn't like the dingy quality of an ivory shirt. But I knew that an white shirt on him and an ivory dress on me would drive me batty.

So we tried the ivory vest/tie with white shirt combo and it is really dashing (in my opinion of course). I think it adds a level of formalty too which I liked.

We are using a 3 button jacket with this.

The groomsmen are gettinga similiar style of tux (but a cheaper one) with a black vest/tie and white shirt. My bridesmaids are wearing black strapless gowns.

The dads are wearing traditional 2 button tuxes with black bowties & cumberbunds.

Re: HELP - its time to dress the men...

This is what we are doing - I have an ivory dress. BM are wearing bordeaux. FI is getting a ivory shirt with a wine vest and ivory tie. (neither of us like the traditional white/ivory vest look.) GM are wearing wine vest and wine ties with ivory shirts. I told the dads to coordinate with the mom's dresses.

I know there is a lot of debate whether or not the men should wear ivory if the brides dress is ivory. I hear mixed reviews. My friend who is a fashion designer wore ivory and her man wore a white shirts...and she is the most fashionable pereson I know. Her pictures were fine...I guess it depends how you feel on the subject. I think either is fine.

As far as the GM, it is a matter of opinion whether you want them to match the BM or not and I guess it would depend on what color the girls are wearing. My brother got married 2 weeks ago and the guys went neutral (black) b/c they said they did not want to get caught dead in lavendar like the girls wore. (they think they are too tough for lavendar...actually I think it is pretty stylish for guys now!). I decided to match.

I never knew the rules for dad's until I was on this site. It seems many people on this site coordinate the dad's to the bridal party. I told my dad to match my mom. For my brother's wedding mom wore champagne dress and dad wore champagne vest and tie. The modern 4 button tux too. He looked great!

Re: HELP - its time to dress the men...

MY FH is handling this one, since he can't see my dress, I can't see his tux!
My one suggestion if you're looking to save the guys a little $$, cross the Nassau border to Suffolk where there's no sales tax... I'm not positive, but I think it could apply to rentals...
