help! makeup tips please!!!

I'm planning to do my own makeup for my engagement shoot to save some money. I don't normally wear much makeup on a day to day basis, much less for photos.

So I did a test trial at home today....and I'd like my eyes to 'pop' more....I feel like you can't really see my eye makeup even though i'm wearing a ton.
I would love for my eyes to look like Zhang Zi Yi's in the left most picture....

Does anyone have any tips they can share!?

although we have different complexions, we're going after the same look....

cat cosmetics makes an eye smolder pen, with a black eyeliner on one side, and a brown metalic eyeshadow on the other side....

cat also makes a nice neutral lip pencil (color:bucknaked)
You have to buy cat cosmetics from the manufacturer's website...
