Re: help me change my name
I went to the DMV first with a copy of our marriage certificate and I've been putting off SS office because it is usually a nightmare....as for the credit cards and insurance I just called or took care of some stuff online. HTH

Go to the SS office and DMV with your marriage certificate. For me, the DMV was a lot worse than the SS office. You can call your credit card companies up and change your name on the phone and go to the bank with your marriage certificate to change your accounts (if you want to). HTH!

Re: help me change my name
I just did this this past weekend.
First I went to the DMV and changed my address and name- all I need was my original marriage license. Don't forget that you will need to take a new picture because you are changing your name.
Then I headed over to the SS office in Patchogue. I waited for about an hour on a Wednesday (I was off last week) Again, I needed my original marriage license, my ID and my SS card because they take the old one.
I have not changed my bank accounts, credit cards or passport yet- a little bit at a time

I went to SS first, and then directly to the DMV afterwards. If you go to their websites, you can print out all the forms you need and fill them out ahead of time. SS was a breeze - got there early and was hardly a line. DMV had a very long line, because it wasn't open yet. Once we got inside, it went pretty quick.
Recently I went to the bank with the original marriage cert. to change my name/address and credit cards, you just have to call them up to change your information.
I also went under DH's policy for car insurance. By combining them, it really lowered our payments. We both had the same insurance, so all we did was call up and do everything over the phone. Doing all the changes is pretty easy, just takes some time and patience.

Re: help me change my name
I went to SS first in Mineola and then DMV in Westbury, both were very painless....in and out in less then an hour in each place. Have your forms filled out prior and all your material with you and ready. Changing credit cards, insurance, mortgage, etc.....took a little longer as you have to call each place. Some changed my name over the phone but some needed a letter or fax sent with copies of dcmts.
