Help me pick a favor please!!!

Help me pick a favor please!!!

So FH and I are disagreeing on what to have as a favor for our wedding. I will post the pros and cons of both but I'm not going to tell which one I want. Maybe I'll tell you all later, if mine wins that is haha jk ;)

Should we:

1. Make a donation to the American Cancer Society?
Pros:
a. It is for a good cause
b. People in our families have had cancer.
Cons:
a. It is a 'typical' thing to do lately
b. It is the more expensive of the two choices by about double the amount.
c. People don't get to actually take something home with them

2. Give out sets of 4 LOVE Coasters?
Pros:
a. People actually get to take something home and hopefully be able to use them.
b. It is half the price.
Cons:
a. It is not a 'meaningful' gift to take home
b. People might just store them away with every other favor that they get from weddings

Donate! It's for a good cause, not everyone is going to use the coasters, I think they're cute but it's not everyone's style. Plus that note you wrote about the donation is a really nice touch.

i like the donation idea...who cares if its the thing to do.....i like knowing that the money i spend is going to be used...imalways afraid that someoneis going to stick my favor on a shelf somewhere...

thank you, but I can't take credit for writing that...I got it off a website, but if we do make a donation, we will probably use that!!! thank you :)

Just curious....why is the donation the more expensive option? I picked that one, only because I truly believe that it is the better choice. I don't ever remember a favor that I was given...despite the fact that all brides think they are 'usable'. I'd rather see my money go to something positive and future oriented. It's one of the many gifts that FH and I will give as a couple.

You buy scrolls from the ACS that are 3 dollars a piece and that is what you give to people instead of a favor

I will tell you my honest opinion.....dont get offended anyone....and hopefully i dont confuse you even more......the donation is nice and is for a great cause but I feel like is more meaningful when is something that you or your fiance had overcome in terms of an illness. Is very touching (God willing nothing happens to either one of you) but thats the way I see it or even if it has something related to your/his parents.
The coasters are nice because people would use them. If someone gives me something for a home i'm more willing to use it then something that has a bride/groom or that says wedding all over it. We just went to a wedding and they gave us those coasters and my mom uses them everyday for her small table in her room for coffee and tea. I collected mine and my FH for our new place. I dont have furniture but I already have love coasters and they are very nice for couples who live together...and even for valentine's day for a nice romantic dinner.

I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THE COASTERS AS WEL.. YEAH DONATING IS A NICE THING TO DO OF COURSE.. BUT IS IT A FAVOR????????????????????

I would do the donations becuase it's more meaningful. I been to countless wedding where I have gotten heart shaped everything (from icecream scopper to measuring cups) or coasters. To be very honest I typically leave the favor at the wedding or I bring it home and never use it. I personally like the idea of a donation but its not my desicion to make. This should be made between you and your fh. Everyone has a different opinion.

Someone FM'd me before and told me that you don't have to pay $3 per scroll. She sent me an e-mail address from someone from the Cancer Society and you e-mail them and they give you a bunch of information and then you can donate what you want. I was worried too becasue that seemed expensive but I also want to donate. I lost my mom to lung cancer so I thought this would be a good idea. I'll try to find that e-mail for ya!

Re: Help me pick a favor please!!!

I am doing a donation as well, and thinking about what other little thing I can give. Most likely something edible.

As a general rule, I try to avoid giving people things for their home unless we're talking an xmas or bday gift to a person or couple who I know very well and understand their taste and what they need at the time.

I used to save favors from weddings, showers, etc, only because I felt bad that someone spent $ on it - but in the end they all end up in the trash. I swear I have not one single thing I actually use. Coasters are useful, this is true, but not everyone likes hearts or love themed items. I like the coaster picture frames but again, I know that's just my taste and it could end up being a waste in some people's houses.

Again, this is JMO - based on my experience, an explanation on why I chose to do donations and not traditional favors. Also my grandmother passed away of cancer, and FH's sister is battling it right now, so it's a disease that has definitely affected us.

I say the donation...ALOT of people do coasters, especially the love ones.

I voted coasters. It's inbred into me that donations are a no-no, so this is a personal response.

To save money, can you print out your own scrolls instead of using theirs? Then you can donate as much or as little as you want. HTH
