Help me with BM dresses!

Help me with BM dresses!

Where should my girls and I go shopping for them?

Most of the girls and I live in Queens... but we are willing to travel to Nassau (maybe even some areas of Suffolk - but not too far out there like Yaphank or Mattituck or the Hamptons; unless it was for an AMAZING deal).

Also, my girls are all different sizes and shapes.

Should I have all my girls go shopping or just bring a select few for the first few rounds until I decide on a dress? What did you guys do?

I don't want the dresses to be super expensive for them either. What did your BM dresses cost?? So I know what would be considered 'good' and 'not so good'.

THE MORE INFORMATION YOU CAN GIVE ME THE BETTER!!! STORE NAMES, LOCATIONS, ETC!

Thanks to the greatest Brides on the Earth!!!

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

I went to a small store by me on Grand avenue called My party place. I only have 3 bm's so that is why i went there. They paid $130 for their dresses by Impressions. My plus size BM paid $160. I had wanted to go to RK but i could never coordinate a good time for them to travel into the city.

I don't have any locations to recommend out west, however, the first time I went out shopping I only brought my MOH, who is my sister, and one BM who is my cousin and I am very close with her. We went and looked at the dresses that I had seen in magazines and liked and they tried on a bunch of stuff. I narrowed the choices that we all liked down to two and they made the decision between those. Once we made the decision I went back with everyone a few weeks later so they could see the dress, get fitted and place their orders. If I rember correctly the cost $240, they are Bill Levkoff and pics are in my album. Good luck!!! Have fun!

I have a very small BP (my 2 sisters and FH's sister). FSIL lives in FL so obviously, she didn't come shopping with us.

We went to Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. They picked Bari Jay dresses that were $130 each.

ETA: They had a pretty large selection there.

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

I went to both of these places in Brooklyn and they have a large selection and the prices are affordable.

Lotus Bridal
1822 Avenue U | Brooklyn, NY 11229 | 718.332.4385

Valentina Bridal
7605 New Utrecht Ave • Brooklyn, N.Y. 11214, Tel. (718) 331-7500

It also depends on how many girls u r bringing. I wouldnt bring that many girls cause it gets crazy.

Remember that the sample sizes are around 10 so I had the one girl who was that size try on all dresses and my MOH who is bigger made the decision on what it looked like on her.

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

Definitely bring a select few (a few different shapes) for the first few rounds. It is SO overwhelming, I thought BM shopping would be easier but its was WAY more work than finding my dress.

Wedding Salon of Manhasset has a bridesmaids section in the upstairs-its sort of like an attic and gets crowded if there's more than 5 people up there. Its good, with a nice selection.

Bridal Reflections in Carle Place has the hugest selection of BM dresses, although any time I went in there, a 17 year old was always working in the BM section (I don't know why that annoys me but it does).

I've heard good things about POB in Roslyn for BM dresses too.
And supposedly there's a store in Manhattan called 'always a bridesmaid'.

And of course RK bridal has a big selection.

I think you should pick a 'Top 3' bridesmaid dresses and then have them try on all 3 and see what they like. So at least you narrow down the choices and aren't blatantly telling them what to wear.

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

Why not do a fun day in NYC? My BMs dresses are from Here Comes the Bridesmaid in NYC. It's on 35th b/w 7th and 8th, so not far from Penn. They have tons of styles there and are super helpful.

We're all from Queens and we carpooled out to Lillettes in Baldwin-which was about 15 minutes on Sunrise from my house. They picked their dresses and got a discount because i bought my gown there. HTH

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

If you have a large BP (I had 7 girls) I would just go with one or two of the on at least the first look for dresses. This is what I did. Between me, my sister (MOH) and one of the BMs we narrowed it down from about 50 dresses to 4. I couldn't imagine having all 7 of them there, each wanting to try on something different.

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

I had picked out the dress online, found a store that carried it so all the girls could try it on, The Wedding Center in Commack, but ordered from the Bridal Suite in Centereach. Both are in Suffolk, Centereach further east, but still middle of island. The wedding center has more selection, but Bridal Suite is better to deal with and nicer store.

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

i picked out a few I liked online first and then went to a store based on who had samples of the ones I liked, and went from there. It was SO easy- everyone loved the first one I picked!

I found Bill Levkoff has really nice dresses that can flatter everyone, for some of the lowest prices. Mine were originally $210 but I called RK Bridal who offered $155, and then the store by me price-matched. I think that is an amazing price ... even David's Bridal often is more expensive than that.

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

This is all great information. Keep them coming ladies!

So I have 8 girls all togeher... but only 5 are going to come shopping with me in the beginning. OF the 5 one of them is the MOH and she will most likely have a different dress... bc she's the MOH and because of her weight. She is drastically overweight and I think she will have a much harder time finding a dress.

I sent them an email asking for the next 3 earliest Sunday dates they can go shopping.... I got responses from 2 girls so far and they both started with MAY 31st! then the next dates those two gave me were in June. I feel like that's a ways away and I so much rather do it sooner. That doesn't give it much time... and we don't have much time as it is. Not only that but AFTER we pick their dresses I still have to deal with the MOB, MOG, and Grandmother of Bride dress! This dress nonesense just never ends!!!! So the sooner the better. What do you guys think? Is the 31st ok and I'm just crazy?

Re: Help me with BM dresses!

I got my dress and all the BM dresses at The Wedding Plaza in Floral Park. It's right on Jericho Turnpike. They have a good selection of dresses and the people that work there are very nice.

Their dresses ended up being around $160 each - and they don't pressure you to have alterations done there. The dress fit perfectly on two of my BMs, and two others took it elsewhere to have it altered and they were fine with that.

May 31st should be fine. My wedding is a month before yours and the shop told me ordering them all by the end of May is plenty of time.

Both my sister (lisa218) and I ordered our BM dresses from Bridal Suite in Centereach, and they have been fantastic! My dresses came in so fast, I was shocked!!! Their Number is 585-6040
