Help me with my career decision (vote)

I'm a realtor and i make good money but it's all commission based and i live check to check. FH really wants to buy a house soon! But i'm too scared to buy...what if i have a bad season and make no sales??? Then we're screwed with the mortgage! So my question is this, should i get a full time job and do real estate on the side? Or just take the chance and hope for the best?

Let me add that's it been a while since i worked a desk job. I've gotten so used to working from home and making my own schedule.

What would you do?

Are you willing to work the extra hours? Maybe you could take a part time job in addition to the realtor's job. That way you would have a bit of security. Although, nothing is really safe. I work in a corporate environment and nobody is safe from layoffs.

Well, being friends with some realtors, I will say--either make a determination to really step it up and get super aggressive as a realtor, or find something else for some hours. One friend of mine chose to step it up and work really long hours. And now he's one of Manhattan's most successful realtors. Another friend gradually moved into another field and does not really do real estate anymore. And another friend is now home with her children full time!

well that's one of the many reasons i got my RE license. I want to be able to be home with my kids and watch them grow up but still be able to contribute money wise. i think right now i'll get the full time job (in the sales field cause i can't sit at a desk all day!) and just work really hard on nights and weekends too with RE. then when i'm ready to have kids at least i'll still have a customer base/following to fall back on. thanks girls!
