Help-my mother is losing sleep!

Help-my mother is losing sleep!

OK, so my mother wants a mother of the bride dress that is not a 'typical' mother of the bride dress, whatever that means. Everything she picks out is BEIGE which looks terrible on her. She had some dress picked out at some store in Huntington...which she said was teal. She sent me a picture and I swear it is BEIGE. How one can mix up beige and teal is beyond me. Anyway, anyone have a suggestion for something that is a non-typical dress for my very small mom? She is losing sleep. You'd think the wedding was tomorrow but we have practically a year. UGH! She lives in Stony Brook.
Thanks!!!

Beige vs teal? hmmmm...
maybe the pic she sent to you was the one on the designers website and comes in a variety of colors. Find the dress on the designers website nad check to see what colors it comes in.
For future when she goes dress shopping always ask what colors the dress comes in.

My mom wanted the same sort of non-tradional outfit, she hated the typical MOB outfits. She ended up with a bridesmaid seperate by Venus. In a raspberry color.
As for beige, maybe you can convince her it would clash with the bridesmaids outfits and it would make her stand out in a bad way. I talked my mom out of teal, fuschia and a few other 'fun' colors that wouldn't work well with my scheme.

She claims it is 'one of a kind' and there is teal at the bottom of the dress. Here's a pic. It's a nice dress, I guess...but the color washes her out!. Or am I crazy? If she likes it, great...but she asked my opinion. I'm not going to lie!

check out the jade collection on www.jasminebridal.com. My mom originally wanted a beige SUIT! EEK! We found a dress by Jade, in espresso brown and she loved it!!!!!

Those are really pretty. Did she order it from the jasmine site or is there a store that sells them?
Some of those in the jade collection would even make nice bridal gowns in white!

well it's defintely different! I think I would call it more of an olive and blue. IMO I agree with you not the right color for her skin tone.
She still has lots of time to shop. And you can always look all the designers that you see in Bridal magazines, look up their websites and most of them have Bridal gowns, Bridesmaid dresses and MOB dresses. And the sites also usually let you look up the local retailers so you can go to the store to look at the real thing.

i agree that i think it's more of an olive with the tealish/blue color. I think it's very different & very pretty but I have to agree that I think the color washes out her skin tone. Don't freak - u have so much time. Try taking a trip with her the next time she goes dress shopping & pick out some different colors for her to try on...she may be stuck in the beige element, and might be suprised when she sees how much a different color flatters her. good luck!

She should check Metamorphosis in St. James, close to where T. Carlton's USED to be.

My FMIL is wearing a BM dress by Jasmine. She got it at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa, however I do not recommend going there.

I will send her to Metamorphosis, that's close. I actually wore something from there in my high school fashion show! (Like a million years ago.)
Anyway, I'm sure I could find something if I was in town, but I'm in LA and won't be there until Christmas. Hopefully I can convince her to not worry. But she's retired recently and is wedding worrying full time!
Thanks!!!

Since she lives in Stony Brook ...tell her to check out Dorothy Walsh. She is in that area and is very nice to deal with.

If you will be back at Christmas time, you can try shopping at regular stores like Saks and Lord & Taylor. At that time of year they will have the fancy dresses for the holiday season. Recommend going into the city for the largest selection.

We got a good glimpse of her coloring, and somewhat of her hair color.
Your mom would look great in a strong color, like a nice deep blue, a darker emerald green, or a merlot color. Not too dark of a color since your wedding is in June, but something that would make her stand out instead of blending in.

Re: Help-my mother is losing sleep!

Yes, thank you so much!
I agree about deeper colors.
The other thing is she is SUPER tiny. She's five foot nothing and weighs around a hundred pounds. She looks like she's swimming in clothes that aren't petite because her shoulders are so small.
Thank you thank you!
Also, she wouldn't wear anything ball-gowny or strapless. She would feel funny. She's a Land's End sort of mom, if you know what I mean!!
More! More!
Thanks!!!!!
She's freaked out by the city, so I'll drag her in there in December if I have to.
