Can anyone recommend a reliable, knowledgeable and honest mechanic? Am I dreaming by hoping to find this? My car is in dire need of serious help (might also need electrical work as my DH is no longer able to roll down my window from the driver's side)...we live in Brooklyn but will travel...any recommendations are welcome!
ETA: Because of past experiences as well as Beth1210's post...taking the car to the dealer is NOT an option.

Re: Help! Need a great, reliable mechanic...
AAA lists this place as an 'Approved Auto Repair Shop' I have never used them, but the rating means the station offers a 12 month/12,000 mile nationwide warranty on repairs
One Stop Shell 1501 86th Street Brooklyn, NY 11228 New York State Inspection Station. http://www.onestopshell.com 718-331-1207
Anyone else? Does anyone have a 'private' mechanic that they recommend?
This is so hard!

I have a great mechanic, but he is Huntington Station. He was able to fix a problem with my car that 3 other mechanics were unable to find. I was in desperate need also and this guy really came through.

Thank you Smiley!
Are his prices OK or pricey?
DH could go during the day, thank goodness, but we need to fix the car fast. I have a feeling we will have to leave it overnight or longer. So many things are wrong with it (assuming).

I thought his prices were really reasonable. I ended up having major electrical work done and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, even DH was pleased with the cost. He was really nice to deal with too and seemed very up front about everything. Like all mechanics do, he will call you and give you the cost before he does anything anyway so you can decide.

Oh he does electrical work? That's a HUGE plus because like I posted above the passenger side window can no longer be operated from the driver's side...and something is messing up the battery requiring constant boosters.
Thank you!
I'll let DH know.

His card actually says he specializes in electrical repair, which I didn't even know when I brought the car to him. Good luck with the car!

Re: Help! Need a great, reliable mechanic...
Thank you guys for all the suggestions!
I will check out the one closest to me (One Stop Shell) since my DH 'found' him on his own doing research...but I really want to try the electrician...OK, will keep you updated. Thanks so much!
