HELP!!! Need advice before we sign a contract!!

So, my fiancee and I have been lookng like crazy and we think we have finally decided on The Thatched Cottage. So I have some questions for all of you ladies out there.

What questions should we be asking? Are there any hidden charges you have found. Is there anything that I should make sure is included in my contract. We really just need any advice you may have concerning the signing/booking.

Also, I was just curious if anyone has heard any good or bad things about the TC. I have read some of the reviews and was hoping ou could help me out. THANKS!!!

Just make sure you get everything in writing- evetrything they say in passing that is included int he contract, etc.

What type of linens, chairs, amount of CH stations, passed items, cake, etc. Times you are allowed into your venue, and when you need to leave. What rooms you and your guests will have access to, #'s of waiters and bartenders-- I mean, anything and everything you can think of.

I don't know anything about TC so I can't be any help in that department. But as far as hidden costs go, just realize that they add the gratuity on to the per person cost and then tax that price — it's kind of a legal lopehole. Also, if you're planning on having your ceremony there, they will charge you for that too. I would also find out what their 'suggested' tips are for the day of your wedding so you can factor that into your budget.

I'd say sit down and think about what is important to you...lay out of room? menu choices? only wedding? bridal suite? number of waiters per table (we wanted at least one)? number of cocktail hour stations? number of bars at cocktail hour? drink service at table--or do your guests have to line up at bar? if mnore htan one wedding on your day, but at different times, how much time between weddings? on site ceremony? area of hall for pictures? ceremony? if more lhtan one wedding at a time, are movements timed so guests don't end up with 'toher' guests? do brides pass each other on staircase, in halls? (I wouldn't like that) minimum # of guests? maximum number? (you don't want to be crowded)food tasting? butler service at cocktail hour? look at bathrooms clean? large enough? entry way...room for guests to arrive, coat check? place cards? welcoming place? will be first impression for your guests. valet parking? tips included? hidden costs like 'service charge' in addition to mandatory gratities...additonal for maitre de? meall cost for band, etc? will there be a bridal atendant? cancellation policy? what if you don't meet minimum? menu choices--number of choices? do they provide menus for tables? will person you book with be there on your day to see to arrangements you've agreed upon?

also, you might want to think about the tide schedule on the day of your wedding...at low tide the water is way out...and sometimes an odor comes from the mud...just check it out before you sign.

also be sure to check if there are elevators for older/and/or handicapped guests.

I'm sure there are more questions...these are some i remember...most of all relax! enjoy the experience! take notes...and don't be afraid to call a place back if you think of another question. Hope this helps! Good luck!
