Hi ladies! Hoping some of you can help me! We found a RH that we absolutely LOVE!! Unfortunately, it’s slightly out of our budget. Just wondering if any of you tried negotiating the quote u received at RHs and if you were successful. Are there any tips or advice you can offer? TIA!!!!

Re: help! negotiating rh?
I never brought the folks with us untill we signed the contract since i felt like most vendors including RH assumed they are paying and try to get more money out of you. We looked at at a handful of RH and the moment we walked into the one we booked we both loved, i actually didnt get to excited since i thought it was out of our budget. Basically this is how i look at it if you love the RH tell them this is your budget(if you are flexible with date that can lower price based on day of week and season but even if your not) tell them flat at this is our budget it you can get us this price pp then we will book today. As long as its within reason they will usually make it happen.

we didnt negotiate when 1st booking, but then had to change the date into a more of an expansive month. my FH just told the guy he wants the same price. we couldnt get it cause May is very popular but the guy gave us a big discount still. honestly just tell them: this is what I am willing to spend in order to book it right now, what can u do for me?
I did the same thing with my DJ

YES! You can negotiate just about anything! We lowered the p/p plate by about $4 or $5 p/p and we had upgrades added to our wedding, like the raw seafood bar for CH which is supposed to be $16 p/p but we're only paying $12 & the extra Viennese hour WITH breakfast which is supposed to be $20 p/p but we're only paying $16. HTH! It can't hurt to try!!!
ETA: So we saved about $12 p/p

If you're flexible with day/time, you can usually get a lower price. Fridays, Saturday day, and Sundays are less expensive that Saturday evenings.
If you're flexible with your time of year, that can also get you a lower price. Winter months are generally less expensive than spring/summer months.
Sometimes you can get them to lower their minimum, or sometimes if you guarantee a higher minimum, you can get them to lower the price.
Also, if there are upgrades that you know you'll want, tell them that before going into contract. We told NRC before going into contract that we knew we had to have a full Viennese. Well at NRC, that's an extra $10pp. They threw it in for free as an incentive to book.
PS - Which place did you fall in love with?

we havent bboked yet, but it seems the places most wiling to work with the price were happy to hear we had a large number (ie large minimum guest count) and look for holidays for friday and sunday dates...you get the sunday/friday rate but dont have to worry about work, etc.

Re: help! negotiating rh?
my reception hall had a winter special, so we wanted to book that but the special didn't extend to early 2011.
We didn't negotiate - since they couldn't give us the same package they lowered the price with an option to add the package if another one comes along.

We nego..if you can guarantee more people than they request you can definately get them to lower the price.
Also, most times they want to book you and your $$ so I would straight out ask if that is the best they can do.

Re: help! negotiating rh?
Also I wanted to mention.. with every vendor we saw..
we didn't even have to say anything regarding negotiations - As soon as we came to the price part they said 'Well it's normally this price but for you I'll give you an extra cameraman/we won't charge you for the ceremony/I'll throw in a 2nd video person for the same price' - Things like that. I'm sure that's what they do for everyone so the originally price you think you're going to get - it will prob end up being lower without you even trying.

Are you having any kids at your wedding? Maybe they can give you a lower price pp for children. THat might help you save a little more.
