HELP!! Not sure if I should be annoyed or not?

Hi girls, we went to our RH today (the WCC) to pick out our menu..... but we had a problem and I need your help!

We were under the impression that when u pick the menu, you're able to try the food! Maybe we're stupid, but that's the impression we were both under, as well as my parents. Mike and I showed up and there was no food! I asked if we get to sample the things we were picking from and our BM abruptly said 'NO' with no explaination. I didn't challenge him in case we were wrong, but does that sound normal to you ladies? Did you get to try the food? I'm a little wierded out by this....
TIA

PS you know we waited all day to eat! We were starved and dispointed when we got there! lol

I know Chateau La Mer offers tastings every other wed before ppl even book! Which is really convienent.

Ive never heard of that...sorry!

Hi RH twin! When you signed your contract, your BM should have told you how they do things! That's definitely annoying that they 'forgot' to mention such a huge thing to you.

Unfortunately WCC does not do the typical food tasting. If you want to sample the food you need to set up a date with your BM - we were told that it must be a friday or saturday night. Basically you go in when there is an event going on - they take you into one of the small meeting rooms (probably where you signed your contract), and they bring the cocktail hour food to you NOT the main course. So bascially you're only allowed to try the CH food - atleast this is what our BM told us.

They're two separate events - food tasting and selecting your meu.

Not too many places do a food tasting w/out making an appointment, or attending one of their Expos. A food tasting is usually done shortly after you book your RH or before you do it.

I would be very annoyed. My RH has a tasting every tuesday and you can schedule a tasting before booking with them. I went to my tasting earlier this month ( after I all ready booked) and we were able to order what we wanted to taste. I was able to bring 7 other people beside me & my FH. However you can't taste everything. We also still have time to make our final decision on the final menu. I aslo tasted some stuff at their expo...

Hey there,

Usually a place will tell you if they do tastings ahead of time.

From what I understand tastings are often done in big groups. Reason being that catering halls work differently than restaurants, they're not set up to make several different single serving meals because they're not constantly up and running like a restaurant. They're set up to make hundredes of three meals.

Similarly, this is why restaurants limit the menu for large groups, otherwise they'd have to order enough for everyone to have every choice. The waste in food would eat the profits.

Doing several single serving meals is prohibitivly expensive for the Catering Place.

That's why places do showcases, and large group tastings wherever possible, at least with a group they 'kill several birds with one stone' rather than doing single tastings for every person coming in booking a wedding.

Old Field Club would only do a tasting for us if we piggy backed it onto another event. While that sounded strange to us, it worked out well, we were in another room from the event obviously, and we could only eat what the menu was for that night. We decided to do it anyway because at least we'd get a feel for some of what the recipies tasted like. (and they were good)

My RH does not offer tastings but the food that I am going to be having at my wedd is the same thing that they serve at their restuarant, which they gave us a gift cert for to sample the food so thats like our food tasting. But dont worry I am sure the food at WCC is great!!

We just have to go by their reputation! My BM pointed out that they wouldn't be in business for so long if the food s^cked!!

But we WCC brides have NOTHING to worry about. I know 8 people who have been to weddings there, and they all have said the same thing - AMAZING!!

A lady I work with just went to a function there and said all the food was excellent. Still I would be annoyed, your paying a lot of money to have your wedding there and they should accommodate you! I told most places we went to look at that I won't sign anything without tasting the food.

Yes this is right. I'm getting married at WCC and did this on a Friday night I think

We never tasted our food before our wedding. I always thought places did tastings, but I found out they all don't. We were able to try the cocktail hour food at a wedding showcase, but never had any of the main menu or cake. No big deal to us.

We were told we couldn't have a tasting when we booked with our place. We had dinner in the restaurant & everything was great so I'm just going to assume the food at our wedding will be good ::fingers crossed::

I got to taste the butler service and cocktail hour food - including the station chosen by the wedding going on at the time. We were in our own private room at WCC - not some factory feeling public tasting. We were even wondering if we should tip them b/c they were so helpful, curteous, kind and professional. Honestly, the food there is great... FH and I were full and we didn't even sample the entrees. They brought us alcohol and everything. I thought it was very professional. Honestly, I knew before I even booked the place what I wanted for entrees and such - you know what you and your guests like. My BM there has been SO wonderful. FH and I also went to a New Years Eve party at WCC in 2006 and we loved the food served then. I have been to so many weddings with horrible food - you know it couldn't possibly be what was served at the tasting or why would anyone book there. I keep getting told by everyone I know that has gone to a wedding there (and I know a few such people) - so you can rest assured -- when it comes to the food at WCC you have nothing to worry about. I did my menu already and I'm very excited...
