Hairspray, but not if it's satin, it will make a ring, I think. Test a small hidden part first...

Take it back and tell them to take it out. Dont do it yourself and take a chance of staining it.

My dress had a small pen mark on the front, also. My seamstress got it out herself by using dry cleaning fluid. My dress was silk and there was no stain.

Apparently, you can buy dry cleaning fluid in a few stores in the Garment District.

ETA: If you are going to try this, you should try it first on the inside hem just in case.

trust me, trust me, trust me. Take it Madame Paulette in NYC (second Ave between 65 and 66th streets). They are world famous and have gotten stains out from very expensive couture dresses owned nny Jackie O, etc., liz Taylor, etc. The price tag is very steep however but they can do it. Also check out www.manhattanusersguide.com (known as MUG in nyc)-it's a gerat website and online newsletter for Manhattanites which keeps archives of everything including a very helpful article on the best cleaners ion the city which they ran about 2 months ago. Hallak Cleaners(second ave b/w 64th and 65) is one of them and they too are expensive although I don't think nearly as expensive as Madame Paulette. FYI-these 2 cleaners have websites you can check out. Good luck! Whatever you do though, don't attempt to get it out yourself-God forbid you ruin it.

DO NOT USE HAIRSPRAY! That will only make it worse! Take it to a bridal salon or a dry cleaner that you trust. A dry cleaner can spot treat the dress without having to clean the whole thing but DO NOT USE HAIRSPRAY!

I have absolutely no idea if this will be at all helpful, but maybe do a google search of 'pen and X' (X being whatever fabric your dress is).

I have to agree with you and other girls, though, I'd be too freaked out to try to get the stain out myself. I'd probably wind up with a blue streak or something.
