Help, People have some NERVE--Its a shower NOT a free-for-all
Ladies: I haven't posted in a while as I am swamped with work and am way behind in planning. I've cried every day this week. But I have to tell you the nerve of some people.
My mom is hosting my surprise bridal shower (obviously not a surprise, but everyone thinks it is). My mom is the nicest woman ever who has paid for everything for the shower, bought so many gifts for my shower, etc.. Being who she is she told my FMIL, invite whoever you need to invite to the shower. My FMIL invited about 30 people. One woman (who was invited alone, not with her children, RSVPd yesterday informing us that she + her 3 children (ages 10-15) will be attending. HELLO, its a shower not a free for all. Aside from the expense of 3 more people, what the %&*% is wrong with people. My mom doesn't know how to handle it.
Any advice?

it is one thing if you know these children...having random kids at a bridal shower??? that is so not appropriate!!!

someone needs to tell your fmil that she cannot invite whomever she wants and that these guests cannot take it upon themselves to brig guests.
my shower was the same situation, my mom paid for the whole thing and my fmil decided to invite 30+ people. people that were NOT invited to the wedding. my fh told her he was removing those names and that was that.
i feel for you

I am so mad I could scream!! First, I don't even know this woman and now she's so intent on coming to my shower that she has to invite her kids. I don't know her or her 3 kids. I feel for my mom though b/c she tries so hard. I wish I could call this woman up myself and tell her off(although that would ruin the surprise)

I would have your FMIL call her and politely let her know that the shower is for adults only and no children are invited. If the lady decides not to come, that is her problem. The only child at my shower will be my niece and that is because she is a Jr BM.

I agree. Its just so unnerving that people think this way. I will explode if she brings her kids any way. Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions on how to respond? Maybe I can get my maid of honor to call her.

Have your mom tell either your fmil or your fh to talk to fmil and say these people can't bring uninvited children. That you want it to be close family and friends and no univited guests!

Tell the woman she is only invited-not her kids.

If your mom is the type that just says yes because she doesn't want conflict - definitely have your MOH call her or call your FMIL. After all, shower invites only go to wedding guests. Is this woman (and her children) even invited to the wedding?
