help-please give me your opinion on video

I wont go into a crazy long story but let me get right to the point.

I am about to sign a contract for a video with a good friend of mine who is in the business. He did my other friends wedding recently.

He charged her a lot less than me and when I questioned it he said it was a one time rate that he could never do again.

He told me (this is the new quote) that for 750 he can:
-tape us for about 1/2 hour getting ready
-tape some of the ceremony
-and tape 1-2 hours of the reception.

Am I being an overzealous cheapskate? Should I stay with him or research further?

Thanks!

why only some of the ceremony????? i paid 2k for 2 people, all of the ceremony and the whole reception....all unedited footage, and 3 copies of the final DVD.......you have a good price, but it doesnt seem like much for the money

hmmmm.....i would definitely keep shopping around. Only some of the ceremony, and not all of your reception...seems weird.

It seems like a good price but you also are not getting much for the money. IMO the reason to get a video in the first place is to record the memories of your wedding-the whole thing, not part of it!!!...otherwise why bother???? You also don't owe him your business just because he's your friend, especially if he gave someone else a better price before you. So don't feel bad about saying that you need to think about this deal before you sign a contract...it's your wedding day and you have every right to tell him you went with someone else who is able to record the entire wedding and ceremony....!! Try InSync Video and Bellarino...they work with your budget and are good companies :)
P.S. I never heard of a videographer who does 'some of the ceremony' and 1-2 hours of the reception. That doesn't sound legit to me Will he stop recording when you guys are saying your vows or something?!

To be honest, that seems like too much money for too little video, especially considering it is a friend. We had an accquaintance do our video, and she covered our whole wedding and would not have expected any money at all from us, although we did give her something.

Thank you all. He emailed me back and clarified a few things.

He said he would be there the whole time and offered to tape our formal portraits after the ceremony.

I am still inquiring with other places though.

I appreciate all your input because if i didnt ask i would have signed the contract without researching.

that seems kinda expensive... i would agree with the other brides here to shop around! don't worry, you'll find a good deal!

I'd shop around because for $100 more you could get a lot more coverage at other places. I heard Halo has an inexpensive package.

I hate to say this, but it doesn't sound professional at all, and I think you will be very disappointed. You should have all of your getting ready, all of the ceremony, all of the portraits, and all of the reception taped. For just a little m ore, you can have all of that, and not have the stress of working with a friend. This could kill a friendship if you are not happy with the results.
