I was a 'bad' girl and went through a yellow light that turned red as I was already going through. I was on empty for a while and was panicking and just wanted to get to the nearest gas station (which was not so close.) I was pulled over by a sheriff, told him the truth, but he gave me a ticket anyway for going through a red arrow (IT WAS NOT red when I started going through.) The thing is he DATED the ticket wrong! He put down a date that was 5 days later! I was told by a few people to send it in not guilty because that ticket was dated wrong. Now I have to appear in court to fight this thing. I have never gotten a ticket before, never mind fought one. I don't know if I should just pay the ticket and take the points on my license or if there is a good chance of the ticket getting thrown out . . . any suggestions or thoughts? TIA

There is always a chance of getting a ticket thrown out! The date thing helps... Also if the sheriff does not appear at court and you are there contesting not guilty they usually throw them out. From what people tell me it happens a decent amount of the time! Good Luck!!!

I say definitely fight it, girl! You are innocent and therefore, not guilty!

I've heard the same thing. Also, ALWAYS go and fight the ticket even if you were speeding, going through a light, etc. because there's always a good chance that just by showing up you'll get the ticket reduced. It also would not hurt for you to show up in court with proof of where you were at the time and on the date that he actually wrote on the ticket. Good luck!

Bri- definately fight it... do NOT just pay it, b/c then you are basically testifying that you are Guilty, and if for any reason (job, etc...) in the future that they do a background check on you, this will stay with you, and youll always have to explain it. i would get it in the mail ASAP (pleading not guilty) so that its post marked BEFORE the date on the ticket. and like jennie said... gather some proof of where you are on the date that he actually wrote.
good luck! sorry you have to deal with this headache

Re: Help Please! (Re: a ticket)
I already sent the ticket in with the date highlighted and my signature dated before the date the ticket was written for. I sent it in the monday after it happened (it was a Sunday) I was at work on the day the ticket was dated, so I would have to get proof from my district- I guess an updated attendance report.

Fight it! If he dated it wrong, you probably will get off. Also if the cop decides not to attend court(if he looks at the ticket he may want to avoid getting in trouble with the judge by dating it wrong), you are dismissed automatically. I fought two tickets, one I lost but the other I won. GO FOR IT! You have nothing to lose but some time.

You will win the case because he dated the ticket wrong... FH is a cop and if a lawyer or person fighting the tickets finds anything wrong on it, you can fight it and win! He probably was trying to make a quota or something and made a mistake so you could get away with it anyway
