Re: Help Please... what questions

I will see if I have the list from when we bought our home....we didn't have a set list when we were just looking but when we found the house we were interested in bidding on - we came up with a list of questions that were applicable to the house.

Some questions include age of roof, windows, heating/cooling systems, appliances, etc. If it is carpeting and they say it is hard wood underneath - try to see what is really underneath. If there are any dormers/add ons, construction -do they have CO's.

I'll try to think of more for ya...

Re: Help Please... what questions

Thanks Denise!
I have a list from when I bought the co-op... and learned some hard lessons as well!

I'll be checking to see if all the faucets work! and what's behind the shower curtain, you can bet on that
I was thinking about the pipes, roof, boiler, type of heating??? all the nitty gritty questions that come after you find something you like. I want to have that in my back pocket

We've got 2 appointments on Friday! Whoo HOoo

Thanks so much!!!

Sorry to ask such a dumb question but what are CO's...DH and I are starting to look at houses this weekend and we are both so clueless.

CO's are certifications of occupancy you need those for any extensions or additions that you have done to a house. VERY IMPORTANT that they have those PRIOR to closing.

Questions we asked:

Ask about pig tailing?
How many amps is the electrical
Age of roof
Ask about the cesspool
Flooring under any carpeting
Oil service
age of boiler

I will see if I can think of others

Thanks guys!!!

I'll have a more detailed list if/when we find a specific house we're interested in. I wanted a general list of what I should be looking for.

I greatly appreciate everything! Keep 'em coming if you think of anything else

Lou and I asked enough questions but to tell you the truth the owner didn't have answers to every question because they were pretty clueless themselves and somethings remained hidden. Also, Lou and I were pretty clueless even armed with the info that they gave us...but I think having a good inspection does bring a lot out of that nitty gritty - although mine never checked the back door - so add opening all doors to the list. (I didn't get a chance to look for the list last night.)

You are doing the realtor thing already - so happy for ya!!! We never did the realtor thing - we tried but didn't love it - we found ours thru random open houses - driving around on the weekends. I also recommend going to the open houses - you learn a lot going from house to house and seeing what is out there in all different price ranges. We looked at things way over and way under our range - made us felt like we knew what you can get for the money we were spending...
