I have a BM that will be losing a large amount of weight in the 6 months before my wedding. When/how should go about BM dress shopping. Will the salon know how to fit her accordingly? Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Re: Help re: BM dresses
Go now and buy the dress - it's ALWAYS easier to take a dress in than to take it out, so let's say she doesn't lose all the weight she wants, she'll have a dress that fits!

Do you know how many sizes they can take a dress in? I've heard they can only take it in 3 sizes. Is this true?

Re: Help re: BM dresses
it all depends on the style, cut and decoration on the dress... A dress with a lot of beading in patterns, you can't take in 3 sizes.. the plainer the dress the better. But in general more then 3 sizes and it might look off.

How's this, my MOH thought she would be pregnant at my wedding (3rd trimester), so she ordered her dress 3 sizes larger and it was altered perfectly!! She was a toothpick at my wedding instead.

Re: Help re: BM dresses
My BM just had a baby and she ordered her dress size much larger than her normal size and she'll just have it altered to fit her - should be fine!

I was just a bridesmaid in a wedding where they ordered my dress, and I lost 20 pounds after we ordered it. You can totally order the dress now, but warn your bridesmaid that she'll definitely pay full price for alterations, and have more than 2 fitting to make sure it's just right! My dress looked beautiful, but it took a couple of fittings to do all the work of taking it in!

Do you know approximately how much weight she might be losing? Is this something she's 'planning' on doing or 'has' to do (definite.)
A dress can be taken in up to four dress sizes (ie: if she's a 12 now, and will be down to an 8 by the time of the wedding) she will be fine with ordering a dress TO HER SIZE NOW.
If she's losing more weight than that, I would recm'd holding off on ordering until it's a bit closer (consult w/your salon about delivery estimations.)

I agree, that's how I am handling my dress

Can you wait a little longer, just to see how she progresses?

This is always a tough one.
You indicate that your BM will be losing a lot of weight. How many pounds is she realistically going to lose? If she is dead set that she will lose the weight, I would order the dress one or two sizes smaller and then take it in from there, if necessary.
