Ok here is the situation. I am meeting with the preist tonight to book my date and stuff. The problem is I am SOOOOO undecided about the vienesse hour.
We are almost positive that we are booking at chateau la mer and since we are having it on a friday night their are limitations with time.
If we decide on the vienesse hour then we have to start the cocktail hour at like 6 to avoid a recption ending at like 130am. If we dont have it then we have to have the cocktail hour starting at like 730 or so...
What would you do??? If we dont get it they still serve cake and a platter f pasteries and cookies. It is 20pp extra with the vienesse hour and extra hour on reception....
HELP ME!!!!
Also what time would you book the church??

Re: HELP.... reception times..
I am having a 3p full mass, my ch begins at 7p....we will have just enough time in between for pics and hanging out...plus our hall is only 15-20 mins max from the church...how far away is your church from Chateau La Mer?
You have to take into consideration travel time, how long your ceremony is, do you want to be at the ch, how much time for photos before, and what time you can arrive. Some places won't let you come more than an hour before.
If you really want the vienesse, go for it.....if you have a ton of time in between church/reception I am sure you will find a way to fill it.

Ok well it is about 40 minutes away.

Re: HELP.... reception times..
I am not having the extra hr since I dont have the extra $$$$ but my reception starts at 8pm and ends at 1am so I would run into a problem of a really late fri nite wedding.
Church can be at 4 or 4:30 and still manage to make it to a 7/7:30 CH. I think you will be fine either way.

Re: HELP.... reception times..
I've been to weddings where they have them and they are awesome...but I have noticed, once they announce that the vienesse is set up, there is a mass exodus from the dance floor. BUT, that totally depends on your party...will it be set up in another room or in the main room?
On a Friday night, I would go with the 730p ch start regardless of the vienesse hour, b/c the church might not have a mass for you until 4p. At my church, the Fri night mass was 4p, no other options.

Ok so I called and spoke to Nick(BM) and I asked him what he thought. He said that he would just do the chocolate fountain and not the vienesse hour. He said they put out a TON of stuff plus I still get the pastries, cookies and wedding cake and expresso and cordial bar.
So I think i wioll book my church at like 4ish and then reception at 730
what do you think?

Re: HELP.... reception times..
I say skip the vienesse hour and do the fountain and the pastries and stuff on tables, save your money, there will be plenty of dessert Im sure. Perfect do a 4 430 church and then 730 cocktail start- its friday night earlier than that most wont make the cocktail and you dont want your guest to miss it cause they had to work get ready and then friday night traffic. You will be fine the chocolate fountain in my opinion beats the vienesse its unique fun and most of all its chocolate lol yummy

Originally I wanted the vienesse hour too, but the more I think about it, most people aren't looking for a ton of sweets after they've been drinking and dancing. Plus, it really does squash any energy that the dance floor may be experiencing.
Otherwise, your timing sounds good!

Re: HELP.... reception times..
i think that not doing the vienese but doing all the other stuff is the best bet.
i keep thinking i want vieneese (can you tell i can't spell that word?) but the more i really think of it, whenever i go to one, im always, like 'what a waste!' i want to bring home all that food.
i once went to a wedding where they gave little bags filled with yummy treats. im thinking of doing something similar with the Krispy Kremes or something.
i think your final decision was a good one.

Re: HELP.... reception times..UPDATED****
My timing is similar to yours (Friday also). 3:30 church and 7:00 cocktail hour-it's about 30 min to get to the reception from the church but we plan to take pics elsewhere too.

I think that the chocolate fountain would be a great idea rather than the vienesse hour, thats what we opted for....plus its a nicer touch to the party...BELIEVE ME the fountain will be the talk of the night!!!!!!
