Help! Reserving Hotels for out of state family...

Dear Ladies,

You always are so kind and have great advice, so please explain the
reserving hotel room process to me. I spoke with a place out in Plainview and they want me to guarantee the rooms with my own credit card. Is this standard?

My concern is that my family may opt for larger rooms that would not be credited to my 'reservation' and I would be stuck with paying the $$$.

Help!

We booked at the Holiday Inn in Riverhead, we didn't have to go give a credit card to hold the rooms or anything. So the hotels I visited all basically had the same policy. You choose them, they give you a group discount rate, and they hold so many rooms, until about 30 days prior to the wedding. That is really it.

I just booked my room block today. The hotel didn't ask for a credit card of any kind at all. They are holding the rooms until 30 days prior to the event.

I wouldn't have booked with the hotel if they required my credit card.

They should not need a credit card unless it is to reserve YOUR bridal suite. They should take the block off of the rooms 30 days prior so there is no reason to hold your credit card on file

they should not need your card. if you are looking in Plainview, we blocked rooms at the Four Points Sheraton there and they were very easy to work with.

my hotel asked me to guarantee rooms with a credit card but it was only 5 rooms. Since we have my entire side of the family OOT we didn't think it would be a problem. I wouldn't guarantee all the rooms

Thanks for all the replies and info. They wanted us to 'secure' for 5 specific room types but my family members are interested in larger room styles that would not count towards my 5 secured. I'll call over to the Four Points since many Swannies tend to us them!

Bens Girl - thanks for posting your review. It's been a great help with seeing the SC during an event not just during down time!

Best to all.

I looked at both the Hilton Garend Inn and the Four Points Sheraton in Plainview and neither one asked about a credit card. I ended up going with the Hilton Garden Inn because it's like brand new.

I was looking at the Homewood Suites, loved the suite style because it's perfect for entertaining. They would charge $159 for the Studio suites. Since most of our families are OOT we know they would pay the non-wedding fee for the one and two bedroom suites - no discount available for those rooms. So I was not sure if I would be able to fulfill the contract and don't want to take the chance, especially with paying for a wedding!

We blocked with the Hyatt and they did require a credit card...you also have to guarantee a mininum # of rooms would be reserved or you are responsible for paying for them :unless the hotel is bale to book those rooms (they release the block 30 days before your wedding day) ahh: We made sure of our guests' commitments before we signed the contract...luckily we had no problems and it's a beautiful hotel but I wouldn't recommend that deal to everyone for obvious reasons

eta: If you do sign any contracts and give your cc # have them put in the contract that all rooms (suites and regular sized rooms) are included in your block so you are not responsible for any unused rooms in your block- be very clear about that and have everything put in writing
