I need advice and I have no idea how to address this. A family friend was invited as Mr.. & Mrs. only but then rsvp'd telling us 5 people are coming including their kids. I don't know what to say to them. I figured to be blunt and say, I'm sorry but you cannot bring 3 additional people when you were only invited as a couple not a family. I don't know what to do and any advice would be appreciated.
TIA

Re: HELP- RSVP Question
I would kindly tell them you are sorry, but unfortunately you are unable to invite their children. I had a similar situation and told the family we had to cut the list on both sides and it's too much to invite the entire family. Start with kindness and if they don't except that, then I would be blunt. Hopefully they will understand. Good Luck!

I agree! Be honest and tell them you can't make any exceptions. Good luck!

You have to be honest with them. Apologize and let them know ASAP.

Re: HELP- RSVP Question
I agree with what the other brides posted...be sweet and honest, tell them that although you would love to have all 5 of them (!!!), it is just not in your budget to invite them and it is an adults-only reception...if they don't get the hint, then be more firm about it. Another tactic: If the other 3 people are their young children, explain that your venue really isn't child-friendly and that you don't want them to get hurt on your wedding day because you would never forgive yourself...

Re: HELP- RSVP Question
Unfortunately this isn't a uncommon issue. You need to be upfront and honest with them as soon as possible. I have heard this from every bride I know and do not look forward to experiencing this in a few months. We have actually told people that we aren't inviting kids outside of first cousins, you can't make everyone happy.

Re: HELP- RSVP Question
I think it is horrible but unfortunately expected. For this reason the RSVP card includes how many people are coming since some of the invitees are invited with guests even though they are not married, don't have a significant other, etc.
Is it possible they didn't realize only the adults were invited? The other girls gave some good advice on how to respond.

Re: HELP- RSVP Question
I just experienced the same problem. As long as you are gracious and considerate in your approach, they would understand. Her initial reply was, 'I figured it was an adult reception.' Sooooo, why did you put your children on there?
