I'd say if you can spring for the extra $$$$ then switch it.
We were pricing the Sandals resorts and saw the raves about the Grande as well.

I would switch if you can afford to. The Grande is suppose to be really, really nice. We were thinking of going there but it was a little out of our budget. We ended up booking the new Sandals Whitehouse which is opening next month and is suppose to be amazing !

Ok, dont panic! I stayed at the Grande, but I also visited the regency. They are very different type of resorts. BOTH ARE NICE! You really cant go wrong in St. Lucia. The regency has more restaurants than the grande, and they are very good. The regency is very spread out, more private. The grande has all things centrally located. The grande is newer (it is an amazing resort). Both you can eat at any of the resorts and even use the facilities at any st. lucia resort. So, if you dont want to pay more to switch then dont. I personally like the grande more, because it is more my style. However, I would not be disappointed at all with a trip to the regency.

Re: Help! Sandals St Lucia
We booked a trip to the Regency, but we thoght long and hard b/w it and the Grande.
We went w/ the Regency b/c the Grande was too small for us. We like to explore (and a max of 10 minute walk is not big at all). We also liked the fact that the Regency had both, privacy and entertainment, and don't like it when everything is all in the same place. Plus, I really wanted to stay at a villa and not in one of the rooms of the hotel. Regency is the only one that has villas that are not at the highest level (can't afford those). Also, the Grande is not a new hotel. It used to be the Hyat, but Sandals bought it out and renovated it a few years back. However, the beach at the Grande is supposed to be better than the Regency.
I've also read all the reviews on tripadvisor. It seems to me that all the complaints are really pretentious. I'm afraid that might be because it's a golf resort and attracts a certain crowd when compared to the Grande.
Basically, I'd say go based on which one fits you more. At the end, it's Sandals in St. Loucia. It cannot be bad.

Re: Help! Sandals St Lucia
Well I changed the reservation to the grande. It was not a question of money because the only difference in rooms was at the regency we had a butler. At the grande we will still have a suite just no butler....no big deal.....I can do without Jeeves! I just know how picky I am when I go to hotels and how much I obsess over little things so for peace of mind I switched. My good friend has stayed at the grande and said it was amazing and I trust her judgement. I just didnt want to take the chance although I am sure that the regency will be lovely!
