Help save my OOT guests (kinda long)

Help save my OOT guests (kinda long)

My FH is from MD, so obviously there will be OOT guests. His mom, while wonderful, is the overexcited planning type. The feeling that I get from her is that because she is the OOT side, she is in charge of finding the hotel. Bear in mind that I too have OOT guests. She wants guests to stay at the Floral Park Motor Lodge, while I was hoping for the Wingate Inn. When I suggested that 2 options would be great, she staring included the RD into the mix, hinting that the RD should be near the hotel so guests don't have to travel anymore. Again, that leads back to her getting the Floral Park motor Lodge. I know they say to delegate, but I am scared to loose hold of my wedding.

So I ask you, oh wise wonderful brides of LI & NYC

1) Can you suggest any good Rehearsal dinner spots near Wingate Inn?

2)Am I overreacting?

3)Is FP motor lodge that bad?

Thanks ladies!!!

why don't you rent out one of the rooms at the wingate and have them cater it

There are TONS of places for an RD near the Wingate Inn -- there are many restaurants in GC. I'm having mine at the Seventh Street Cafe.

As for where guests should stay, they don't have to stay at the place you recommend, but many of them will. I would only recommend the hotel YOU are comfortable recommending. If your FMIL wants to tell them to stay somewhere else, she can.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Garden City right off Old Country Road. It was great. The Wingate is nice also. I don't know about the FP lodge. Maybe you should go and check it out.

In terms of a rehearsal dinner near by I know that Pappa Razzi is right around there along with the zillions of restaurants near the mall.

HTH!

IMHO, no, it's not that bad. My FMIL went there and they let her look at the rooms. They are normal plain old hotel rooms. Go there, and tell them, I'm having a wedding, and would like to reccommend to some of my guests to stay here. Can I look at a few rooms please.

I am sure they will let you!

Good Luck!!

BTW, there are places in Floral Park, Bellerose and New Hyde Park that you can have your RD at. I am having mine at Trattoria Lucia on Jericho Tpke / Jamaica Avenue. It's a small little italian place next to the Roslyn savings bank, but they have REALLY good food. There's also umberto's in NHP, Trinity if FP and some more places that I can't think of the names right now.

Your guests don't have to stay at the hotels you suggest, but most of them probably will. Give your suggestion for hotels and let FMIL give hers and leave it up to the guests to decide.

There are plenty of places to hole a RD around both hotels. Seventh Street Cafe is terrific and not far from Wingate, as is Orchid, BK Uptown Grill and all the restaurants by the mall. In addition, Floral Park has Umberto's and Trinity right by it.

I would recommend both hotels this way your guests can choose and your FMIL is happy. If they're both in the same vicinity, then why would travelling to the RD matter? And if they're from MD, will most have cars with them? If so, it shouldn't be an issue, as long as you provide directions. People expect these things when they go to a wedding OOT. Good luck!

Our guests are staying at the Wingate Inn and we're having our rehearsal dinner at the Maine Maid Inn. It's about 10 minutes away. Good luck!
