help - should we upgrade our bar??

this is what our current bar looks like:

assorted soft drinks, imported and domestic beer, house red and white wine
Ketel One, Absolute Vodka, Kahlua, Captain Morgan's, Segrams Seven, Malibu, Johnny Walker Red, Amaretto, Tanqueray Gin, Bacardi Silver, Jose Cuervo, Canadian Club, Jack Daniels, Peach Schnapps, Triple Sec, and Sweet & Dry Vermouth
Cheese Straws with a Blend of Swiss & Italian Cheeses Compliment the Bar

for roughly $10/pp we can upgrade to the platinum bar

Grey Goose, Ketel One, Glen Livet, Glenfiddich, Macallan, St. Germain, Makers Mark, Jameson, Southern Comfort, Kahlua, Captain Morgan's, Segrams Seven, Malibu, Johnny Walker Black, Amaretto, Bombay Sapphire, Bacardi Silver, Patron Silver, Canadian Club, Jack Daniels, Peach Schnapps, Cointreau, and Sweet & Dry Vermouth
Includes Assorted Soft Drinks, Imported and Domestic Beer, Premium Red and White Wines

so far, 13 (no joke!!) of our friends said the grey goose alone is worth it. are people going to get smashed if we do this?? is it better to upgrade a bar than say, get an ice cream station? is it really worth it?

Re: help - should we upgrade our bar??

If you have the money for it then maybe you should. But if you're going to be cutting back in another area because of it then it's not worth it.

help - should we upgrade our bar??

Do you or your FH drink Grey Goose or any of the other premium liquors? If so, I would upgrade, otherwise your guests will have to make do with what you have.

You dont 'need' it per say, but I think this is something I would personally do. I just think there is a definite difference between Grey Goose, Glen Livet, and Patron VS Absolute, Johnny Red, and Cuervo.

Some people may disagree with this but IMO the type of liqour served helps set the tone of an affair... If you have a very formal or black tie wedding than I think premium liquor is a must...For instance, if your serving oysters and caviar than I would expect to be able to drink a grey goose martini rather than absolute...If not, than you can probably get away with the basic package. I say just think about yourself, your guests, and the tone of your wedding.

I definitely think it is an opinion thing. I personally will only drink Ketel One martinis (I just like the taste better then g.g.) and you have that on both lists. As far as quality of the other liquors go, it really depends on your crowd. I would not upgrade to the higher package for Patron if people are just going to drink it with coke.

Again though, I guess it depends on the people at your party. I would take a look at your guest list a try to see if a lot of people are beer/wine/mixed drink drinkers or if they would appreciate Glen Livet neat.

My hall gives the option of bringing in any special liquor/beer and they have no problem serving it. FH needs Blue Point beer there so we are going to buy a few cases and bring it there a few days before.

This is just my opinion but I would not spend another 1000 + for liquor. There is NOTHING wrong with what you have now.

I agree with this whole heartedly. FI and I are big into drinks but it definitely is not worth it in my opinion, most people won't even know it. If you want gray goose, buy a couple bottles of your own and give it to the bar, definitely more economical than upgrading all the liquor.

Exactly this! If ppl are going to be super picky about grey goose over absolute then buy your own drink! Lol Just my opinion.

I acutally don't see a huge difference. It's not like Ketel One is a bad vodka!

Re: help - should we upgrade our bar??

I agree with the girls - there's nothing wrong with the choices they provided. Sure Grey Goose is good vodka, but not necessary. Your friends and family should be happy there is an open bar! Save your money

help - should we upgrade our bar??

It's based on what you want and your crowd. I did the basic liquors and 2 bottles of gg and black for my engagement party and my family wasn't happy when they ran out.

In my opinion, to make my (very close) family happy i'd spend the extra, but if the most important people (yourself, close family) doesn't mind, then its not necessary. Get the icecream if thats what makes you happy :)
