Our steel drum band has asked us if we have any requests for the cocktail hour. I said YES! Beatles! I think Brown Eyed Girl is the only song that comes to mind along with maybe some Marley.
Has anyone heard anything that sounded great on steel drums?
OR if you had a steel drum band at the wedding did they play any songs that you recognized that sounded great?
TIA

Re: HELP! Steel Drum song requests???
I haven't had my wedding yet but I am planning on adding a steel drum to my CH. I am having a themed CH though (I want all island/reggae music played like Bob Marley, UB40 etc.) and steel drum would sound awesome with it.
I would see if your DJ has an upcoming showcase, go to it, and see if they could perform one of two songs you're interested in hearing on steel drum. I can't see why they wouldn't help you out.

Re: HELP! Steel Drum song requests???
We booked privately, as in, we found out what steel drum company the dj uses and booked them privately. It was much, cheaper that way. I don't think I have time to hear them play anywhere with 8 days left. but I think I'm going to start youtubing steel drums and see what others play.

We found that if you book separately the steel drummer is a lot cheaper. We went with Adrian from Pan Occasions he was the most reasonable and I have had a good experience with him so far; very professional.

Re: HELP! Steel Drum song requests???
We are using Steel Sensations who is the company that After Hours, our DJ uses. We aren't paying the typical cost though, as FH used to teach music alongside the owner at a previous school district and now happens to have his son in his marching band and as a music student at the new district.

UNDER THE SEA from the Little Mermaid!
Don't laugh ... It's the only song I can think of that has a recognizable steel pan drum in it!

We had steel sensations......they were great! They had about 5 guys. They played a Michael Jackson song that sounded unreal- and now I can't remember the exact song!!
They weren't cheap for the hour, but they're really good.
