HELP! Unique Wedding Venues on LI???

Does anyone know of any unique places for a reception on Long Island?
A big (or even small) catering hall isn't something that would match mine and my fiance's personalities. So I'm looking for something that is really special and different. Ideally I would love to be on the water or have waterview and I would love for the place to have some history to it. I saw pictures on another wedding website of a beautiful barn with gorgeous high vaulted ceilings and all wood interior that was out of state, are there any places like this on Long Island that can fit 160-180 people? I have found pretty historical buildings, but all of them have a max of 100-125.
Would like for the wedding to be in Suffolk.

Also, does anyone know of any OCEANfront reception locations in Suffolk, aside from Atlantica and Gurneys?

Any suggestions would be fantastic!!!

Thatched Cottage in Centerport but its not Ocean its bay i think.

Mines the only other one on the Ocean that I'm aware of. And its Nassau.

The Old Field Club is gorrrrrrrrrgeous. But I think its too small for you.

I was looking for this too. There are many places on Weschester like that not so much on LI. There are lot of beautiful historic places like De Serversky center and where I got married The Woodlands but, not really any by the water that I know of. I don't know what your budget is and if you are interested in places in Weschester if you want to know send me FM.

You HAVE to check out the Old Field Club!! It's gorgeous. Vaulted ceilings w/beautiful chandeliers, large fireplace in the ballroom, tons of french doors that look out onto the water and the cocktail hour room also looks out onto the water. It has a very understated elegance, very Martha Stewart-ish. One issue is that I think they max out at 170ppl, but if you could find a way to make it work I would HIGHLY recommend it. We looked at over 20-something places and that was where we fell in love. Elegant w/out being ostentatious or pretentous. The website is www.oldfieldclub.com, but I urge you to look at it in person since the pics don't do it justice.

Raphael Vineyard is amazing and different. Not on the water though.

This venue is in Kingston, not far from NYC and absolutely gorgeous. Onteora Mountain House

If you're looking to do some legwork, there is a barn for party rentals out on the East End. There would probably be alot of legwork involved (vendors, table linens, equipment rental) but if you have a good imagination and a 'vision' this place would be awesome

Last but certainly not least, is the Jedidiah Hawkins Inn.

My FH and I also wanted something different. We looked into vineyards, museums and finally settled on the Atlantis MarineWorld Aquarium in Riverhead. It will defintely be unique. It's right on the Peconic, and you can have part of your wedding outside on the bay (not ocean though) if it's warm enough and you'd like. I know they can accomodate that many people, because that;s our round about number. FM me with any questions. And good luck in the search!

Martha Clara Vineyards has a few locations on their property...one being a cool barn. I dont know the capacity though.

Another amazing winery is Wolffer in Sagoponak. It has this old world Tuscany feeling. I would have booked there in a second...if it didnt cost a fortune : )

What about looking into a waterfront mansion. I imagine it could take some digging...but I am sure if you call a wedding planner they could locate one for you.

I LOVED the Old Field Club, I did see it in person, it's right near my hometown and where I will be having my ceremony (at a nearby church). But, we felt it would be too small, especially the dance floor for the number of people we were looking to have, so it was at the top of our list until we thought about that part.

I am considering the Bourne Mansion, it was really beautiful there and a huge space for dancing.

Congratulaions it is truly a beautiful venue, wish we could cut our list down more because I would definitely highly consider it there.

Aww thanks. I wish you could have it there. I feel like their personal promoter. The food was out of this world too and we did a BUNCH of tastings. Forget the best wedding food I've ever had, it was one of the best MEALS I'd had in ages. Can you cut your Aunt Bertha, or any annoying distant cousins?? LOL

We're getting married at the Riverview Restaurant in Oakdale. Not a traditional catering hall whatsoever and it's right on the water.

I felt same as you and searched high and low. I looked for places that weren't specifically designed for weddings. I booked an oceanfront spot in nassau - fm me if you want more information.

Check out Jedediah Hawkin's Inn. It is not on the water but it is a restored historical landmark building. It was built for Captain Jedediah Hawkins back in 1863 with fireplaces throughout and a wine cellar.

This is the loft area used as a bridal suite.

It is pretty small so I'm not sure how many it will hold for weddings.
Here's the website.

I had a water front tent wedding at The Inn Spot on the Bay...it's not on the ocean but on Shinnecock Bay...the ocean is right down the road...more pics in albums & review.
