HELP Venting!!!!I FEEL LIKE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE

Ok I am newly engaged and we are planning a 2009 wedding hopefully in the summer. I feel like my fiance is not into it yet and I am. WE have no money, so I have to save, and we agreed to set a date after I graduate my masters in May, which I am ok with, however I got a gift today and he completely changed the subject on me. Ok Vent is over....I am breathing now...My main question is how do I have a beautiful wedding on an extremely low budget? Please help!

Hi!

Congratulations on your engagement, and welcome to the boards!

I was going to post the links that the other girls posted above, b/c there are some VERY helpful hints on there.

When my FH and I got engaged last May, we decided to have a year and a half engagement for several reasons, one being that we could have time to save for the wedding. We're paying for our own wedding, and I'm pretty crafty so I'll be doing whatever I can DIY. A lot of brides on here are so damn good at DIY projects they're putting me to shame!!

Whatever you can do yourself, work up the numbers using prices you research online and compare those prices to the finished product you can buy. If it pays to DIY, then that's the way to go! Just beware that sometimes buying all the pieces to make something will actually cost more than just buying the product already finished.

A tip from LIW brides that I've found very helpful and will be taking advantage of soon is printing out the weekly AC Moore 40-50% off coupons that they have online and using them to buy wedding-related things. I'm debating making my own invitations, and those coupons will definitely come in handy if I decide to go that route.

I just made our save-the-dates and saved about $70. I ordered them from Vistaprint and customed the free cards, so it was about $16 with shipping. I'm getting adhesive-backed magnets from Staples and then it's DIY time! This is my first wedding project, so I'm excited!!

A saving tip that we use is to collect our spare change every night and dump it into a cup set aside. Every so often, I wrap the change, bring it to the bank and deposit it into our account. It sounds small, but it really does add up.

Also, since we've gotten engaged, any gifts that we've received for birthdays, holidays, engagement, etc all go into our account. It's slowly but surely adding up. If you received gift cards for the holidays, and they're not store-specific (like Visa cards or AmEx gift cards), you can put those towards wedding-related things.

And I've been working any 'overtime' I can get. I teach 3rd grade, so I've done the morning test prep program, and now I'm starting an afterschool program. All paychecks from this extra work will also go into the account.

Good luck, and have fun!!!!!!
