Ok, tanning experts, I went for the first time today with my FH, and we both got lightly burned just in the middle of our backs and tummies. The rest of us got very little color. What happened? Does this mean that we had the lid down too far?

Re: Help! Weird burns from tanning...
Believe me, I'm only doing this for the wedding! I am so white, and we are going to Mexico in a couple of weeks, so either way I am going to get burned. I would just prefer it to be a bit more uniform.
I was on a 15-minute bed for 10 minutes; I probably should have done just 8 or so.

Some areas of your skin may be more sensitive to sunlight then others...especially if they are not exposed much. I know how you feel. I am VERY pale and plan on going tanning for the wedding. Just be careful...start w/ a smaller amount of time a build up. It's better to leave w/ no results then leave w/ a burn. You may want to use a slight SPF on the areas that burn easily. It's not worth having chunks of your skin removed later.

Re: Help! Weird burns from tanning...
try a stand up bed..... but remember dont be a mummie in it, dance, turn arround do a semi squat, and LIFT YOUR ARMS. I found that if i do a stand up for a very few times i get a better tan to start, then i go to the lay down beds... you have to move in each

Re: Help! Weird burns from tanning...
The areas on your body that got burned are usually the 'fleshier' parts...if you are really pale to begin with, I would suggest going in the standup beds and taking a spray bottle of water to cool you down. This helps me alot when the bulbs get too hot. Always use a tanning lotion, this helps prep the skin to bring melanin to the surface faster. After about 5 sessions, you should build a base tan. Try to use the best quality beds to build your base tan, they contain the least UVB rays and highest % of UVA rays. UVB rays will burn you, and UVA rays tan you. After you build your base tan, you can go into the cheaper beds. Also, the lie down beds can leave you with weird white spots under your arms and in your lower back area.

My poor date twin!!!
I refused to tan for the wedding. Knowing I havent gone away yet and its the dead of winter, I felt I'd look ridiculous and didnt want to risk burning. BE CAREFUL!!!!

Re: Help! Weird burns from tanning...
This is fairly common when starting tanning.
My chest and tush usually burn, so I found a method that works for me.
Try covering with a towel the sensitive parts mid cylce to avoid burning. Eventually you will be able to be fully exposed for a full cycle without burning. Then you should flip mid cycle for even tanning.
