HELP: what to write when you want to say 'no jeans, but no tuxes'

I just got a call from someone who's invited to my DH's surprise party.

I wrote 'formal attire' because some of my in-laws dress like crap when they go out.

So, I just got a call from one of my family members asking if she had to wear a gown.

oh no. What would have been the proper way to write 'no tuxedoes, but no jeans'

Even 'dressy casual' would work too!

Dressy casual is perfect. If it read formal I would probably wear a black cocktail dress.

Dressy casual sounds contradictory.

If you mean no jeans, no tuxes, just say that!

When we had semi-formal events at work, they always wrote Festive attire

WEll, it was always an Autumn season opener...Festive sort of implies holiday to me = what you would wear for a Christmas or New Year's party. You know, sort of sparkly and satiny but not formal...
