Today I went to my florist to see a sample of my bo-k. I drive the half hour out there, and my florist is not there!! Now this is the second time I have driven from Smithtown to Bellmore where he was not there and it was for nothing. I scheduled this with him last Thursday or Friday, so I didn't call to check to see if he was in, which FH says is my fault.
My point is, granted, I should have called before I left the house to confirm, but considering this was set up a few days ago, I didn't think this would be an issue. Now the girl there is telling me they have an expo tomorrow at the Marriott in Uniondale, and that if I want she will make the sample for me, but I will have to go to the expo to see it.
FH's first response was 'screw that, we should just find another florist', but then he calmed down and said it was my fault for not confirming before driving there, and that I should just have them make the sample and go to the Marriott tomorrow.
I'm perplexed. I know for a fact I will not find another florist in the same price range for what I want. But on the same token, so far with me anyway, he has been inconsistent and can't provide the CPs that I really wanted.
Should I just shut up and tell them to make the sample and go to the Marriott tomorrow or just eat the $100 deposit and find another florist?

I am a stickler about people responding to me and meeting me when they say they will. I feel like this may be an overall reflection on the big day.
We have to remember some vendors will be great for others and s u c k for some.
If this is the second time I wouldnt swallow the excuse and go out of my way for the third time.
I would look elsewhere.
ETA - and you are not happy with the samples! Look elsewhere.

I know, I feel bad because I know you just asked me about them, too!!!
I just don't like driving places for nothing!! I should mention the first time this happened, he said his car broke down which is why he couldn't make it. And that was our first appointment with him!!

Actually, he hasn't made a sample for me yet, this was supposed to be the first one. I just really wanted some candelabras for my CP, but he can't provide them, I would have to supply them.

If he's this irresponsible now, god knows what your big day will be! If you can't get your deposit back, who cares ot took 100.00 to avoid the aggravation. Seek elsewhere. You deserve respect and common courtesy of atleast a phone call. Especially if he was expecting you today.

I would price around and see if you can get similar pricing. I would be nervous that if they forget about meetings and are unreliable now, they will be unreliable on your wedding day. I think peace of mind might be worth spending a little more on a different florist. Good luck!

That is a really hard call Janna. I've heard such great things about George. But I have to be honest and say that all the things I've heard are how great he is before hand. I met with him and I just didn't sense any oomph for what he was doing. He knew his stuff but I wasn't enthused about his lack of enthusiasm. Have you heard any reviews of his actual wedding day performance? I really didn't look into him past meeting him.

Only 1 that raved about him, and Hollie just used him. Otherwise, I haven't seen any reviews. I don't doubt his work at all, it's the customer service that seems to be lacking right now.

I had a similiar situation.. I went with this one florist who quoted me a lower price.. However, I had scheduled to see my CP and when I went she was too busy doing another wedding. And told me to re schedule or come back at 4pm. I was going to stay with her but my FI said that he didnt like the fact that she was busy and didnt make time for me. We jst recently booked with Flower Michele, and I think it was a wise change. I have a greater peace of mind now and am not worried about a disappointment with my flowers!!
I would've ate the 100 dollar deposit but luckily she does other things (which should've been a clue) and I am going to use it for favor stirrers and unity candles etc..

Since it was the 2nd time this happenend AND he cant get you exactly what you wanted in the first place, I would find someone else. Dont blame yourself for not checking with them before you left?! If they made the appt they should have remembered and if they couldnt keep it THEY should have called YOU to let you know.

Ya know, now that you mention Expo the light bulb is going off. He told me he only does samples the day before/of an Expo. I met with him twice, and the second time he said he would call his distributer to try and get the flowers we discussed for CP and he would let me know if he could do it. I called him, and he said no dahlias to make the sample. I checked my notes from my original meeting, and at that time he told me I needed to see a sample either before the end of November, or wait until summer of '06. This was the first week in November.
As you know I went nuts trying to find a florist, and the only other place in that price range is National Floral Wholesale up the street. But a whole bunch of florists quoted me only $200 more.

I would start looking for someone else, but not tell them yet. That would really bug me...I didn't use a DJ who is HIGHLY reccommended on here because he was not there when I went for an appt I made a day earlier, and didn't call until 5 hours later with a really lame excuse..

I don't know, to me this shows this person is not reliable and if I accept this and my Big Day is messed up it would be my fault beacuse on two occasions this person showed they were unreliable. Once i made an appointment with a vendor I never called back to confirm they were there when i shoed up.
