Help! What's the difference between satin and sateen?
YIKES!
I fell in love with the Jcrew D'orsay shoes... after having already bought other shoes.
The fact that the jcrew ones were $185 was the only thing stopping me from replacing my wedding shoes with those.
THEN, the jcrew shoes went on sale! (or so I thought). I ordered them [[ 'all sales final, no exchanges']] and then realized that they were the SATEEN ones, and not the SATIN ones I thought they were!
What's the difference???
First is a picture of the SATIN, the second is the SATEEN.
TIA!

Re: Help! What's the difference between satin and sateen?
Sateen is the same as satin, but made from cotton. Satin is actually a type of weave, like twill, that has a fabric named after it. (If you'd like me to explain the weave, let me know, but I'll have to give a bunch of background on the terminology and whatnot). The satin weave is what gives satin its high shine, and sateen its subtle sheen. Satin is shinier because it is made exclusively from filament yarns (either silk or synthetic), which are longer and smoother than the cotton yarns used in sateen, resulting in the smoothness and shine.

SATEEN is a high quality cotton fabric made in a satin weave. Silk-like to the touch, sateen makes wonderfully smooth sheeting.
therefore i May be wrong, but I think satin is typically made of silk or rayon (a smooth fabric) and has a glossy finish. I believe sateen is typically cotton w/ a satinlike finish...
