not to sound snotty, but if you've been to all those places and have just not found the dress, you may be looking for something that just isnt out there... have you tried various designers- in all price ranges?
eta: try kleinfelds

Re: Help! Where to try on dresses??
I was just wondering why you only tried on 2? Did I misinterpret the info in your original question, or is it that you looking for a very specific style? It might be worth it to just put total trust in the consultant. I ended up with something very different from what I was limiting myself to at first.

You must be going crazy!!! I'm surprised David's Bridal isn't on your list. And the other girls are right...maybe you should try on dresses you aren't particularly looking for. Good luck!!!

You should go to Kleinfelds.. I literally bought the 1st dress I tried on! My consultant Sara asked me to try on her top choice/style of wedding dress for me before I tried on the dresses I had picked out.. It was just perfect. I then proceeded to try on the 10 other dresses I had picked out to be sure, but the 1st one was by far the best.. Sometimes consultants or just other people see things that you can't until you are in it!

Could not agree more!
I bought the second dress I tried on at Kleinfelds. Keisha pulled that dress after I showed her pictures of what I was interested in.
I think there is a problem if you have been to SO many shops and cant find anything to even try on.
I think what you should do is take a step back from the shopping. Get some bridal magazines. Look at 'Real' weddings on the knot that take place at the time of year you are getting married. Print out dresses you like. Go to Kleinfelds website and print out pix of dresses you like. Even ELEMENTS of different dresses you like. When you meet with a consultant give them an idea with pictures. Let them do their jobs and pick stuff out for you.
I think you will have an easier time at Kleinfelds.
Good luck!

Re: Help! Where to try on dresses??
i only tried on 2 because those were the only ones i could find that were close to what i was looking for. i'm looking for something strapless, a line, doesn't cut off @ the waist for that 2-piece look, detail on both the top and the bottom and a decent length train. taffeta or satin (no organza/lace overlays (not my style -though they are pretty)) and preferably something with pickups. i've tried the mermaid style, trumpet, ballgown, simple a-line etc - but nothing is 'the one' yet.
i haven't tried kleinfelds - i was told it was very pricey and i don't want to go over 2K on my dress.
in terms of designers and sales ladies, everytime i describe what i want, they bring me primarily maggie dresses. i love them but haven't found the perfect one yet.
ETA: reading through the posts above and trying to answer all the comments. i also went to david's bridal in the city.

I know you say you know what you want- but why not try on something different? I thought I knew EXACTLY what I wanted, but I tried on a few different dresses anyone and found some I really liked (that I thought I would never like). It can't hurt, right?

Re: Help! Where to try on dresses??
As soon as you described what you were looking for, I thought of this dress I had seen and at one time thought it would be my dress. Ended up pickups didnt look right on me but maybe you like this and could try it. Its by Mori Lee, their gowns are usually always under 2K, I think around 1000 or under somtimes. ITs tafetta and satin, lots of detail up to and it has the apliques (sp?) on the pickups. Ill try to think of some more and look around for you.
What style of Maggie's have you tried on? There's a few that match your description. I would try Valentina's in BK. I only visited 4 stores but this place had a decent, not huge though, selection of dresses you described, prices are good and people in there are really nice and helpful.

I also did NOT want something cutting me off between top and bottom, A line, pickups Or not) pretty train but not TOO long. This is what I got which is almost exactly what you are lookimg for. Kleinfelds starts at $1800 and if pushed they can give a small 12% discount.
Best service, sweetest girls, beautiful Salon, great prices.
They have something for everyone! You will NOT regret going there. Going there was my favorite experience so far with all this wedding planning.

Re: Help! Where to try on dresses??
I would go and try Bridal Suite of centereach or Bridal Reflections in Massapequa...Also like the other girls were saying try on things that you dont think you woule normally try on...Once you put on a certain dress you will know thats the one! You need to try on more than just 2.

Re: Help! Where to try on dresses??
Try kleinfeld's anyway.... they might pick out something for you that is perfect, and the one, but that doesnt mean you have to buy it there... you could pro find the same dress elsewhere for cheaper... ..... i certainly wasnt buying mine from macys... esp with no cap on alts... called burton's and mine was a couple hundred less than macys

i'm going to go to a few stores in bklyn this weekend that other gals here have suggested. hopefully i find something i fall in love with. i've definitely tried on more than 2 gowns...more than 20 probably. the 2 was just from yesterday. i was frustrated because i went to 8 stores and only found 2 gowns that resembled what i was looking for to try on. (i've tried on other styles prior to yesterday on my earlier visits to other stores.)
does the bridal suite in centereach have a large selection? thanks!

Re: Help! Where to try on dresses??
You can also ask the boutiques when the next season of dresses comes out for designers. I know Pronovias just posted theirs in the last few weeks, and JLM's is arriving in stores this summer. Don't wait too long, but maybe if you could wait another month or so, there will be more choices in dresses.
