I ordered a shot luge from Ice Sculpture Designs. It was going to be an ice block with two channels with shot glasses at the bottome. My FH and his fraternity brothers used to make these in college and I wanted it to be a surprise. Well, I already paid a $100 deposit. So, on Saturday I'm at my hall finalizing the menu and they tell me they don't allow shots b/c its a liability and I have to cancel it! Do you think I will get my $$ back? I don't want any other ice sculpture!! And I'm so ****ed b/c this would have been great!!!

I don't think you will get your money back. So you might as well pick another ice sculpture. That was a cool idea though!!!

That's weird about the shots.
What does your contract say about deposits?
My gut instinct is that you won't get your money back. They probably had to schedule people to work on the sculpture for your wedding. But then again, I am sure they haven't done anything other then schedule it so you never know.

Just call and explain the situation to the people you hired to make the sculpture. They may be nice people and be very understanding. That's all you can do. Of course, if you're contract doesn't say they retain your money if you cancel, you get your money back anyway.

What about using it at the RD or the day after? Maybe they could hold your deposit until you have a party sometime.

Re: Help with cancelling vendor. . .
I don't have a contract. I just sent in the deposit last week. And I don't really like ice sculptures so we don't want to get another one. I'd rather lose the $100, than end up paying $350 for something I don't love. I'm going to call them now. I will let you know how it turns out!

I think they will make good considering that it is early enough and the situation was really beyond your control. I hope it all works out!!! Let us know!!!

Re: Help with cancelling vendor. . .
Ya know they may even say that it is made already and sitting in the freezer!! I have heard that they make those things really early during slower times so they are ready in time for the busy season. Like making hearts in December to be ready for Valentines day!! I only mention this so you may be ready with a response if they try to pull that on you. (even though I think its a real stretch to have made one for next month as early as now) Good luck!

The shot thing is a standard in most halls. It is a liability, especially with an open bar.
Could you possibly change the date that you need the ice sculpture & change it for your e-patry or his Bachelor Patry??
You probably won't get your $$ back if you cancel it, but it doesn't hurt to try!
ETA: MAYBE I SHOULD READ ALL THE POSTS BEFORE I ANSWER Glad it worked out OK

Argue with the hall. It doesn't make sense that this is anymore of a liability than an open bar.

I agree, h2k, but I tried that on Saturday. My parents were with me and they tried, too. My mom told them that we had a shuttle bus to take people back to the hotel afterwards, so they wouldn't be driving, but nothing worked. At least I got my money back. I am disappointed though!
