help with christmas plans with FH family

Fh and i have never spent christmas eve together. both my mom and his parents celebrate CE with all the family. then christmas day his fam doesnt do anything, and i spend the day with my dad (he comes).

this year, what are we supposed to do on Christmas eve? i dont want to miss being with my mom's family and neither does he. to top it off, his family is going to rent a hall with a bunch of other families (who ive never met before- how close can they be??) we cant really do both because i work till 5 and both places are pretty far from each other.

fh says we should go our separate ways this year and maybe next year we will get the families together. (it cant be at our house cus its too small).

any creative solutions appreciated!! sorry so long.

you probably wont like this but maybe you should go with his family since they are doing something more elaborate and unique this year. Plus you will meet more of his family members and he will see people he probably hasnt seen in a while. And next year you guys stay with your mom on Xmas Eve.

I kind of agree with your FH. I would go your separate ways one last time. But next year talk about plans early so perhaps your fam and his fam can all get together.

We're actually doing what your FH suggested and splitting up - the way we see it it's our last year to not have to worry about somehow splitting the holiday between families or missing out on one family completely. Rather than worry about not being with your mom for Christmas eve or him with his family, maybe you should just separate this year and worry about it next year.

i agree with fh, i think u should do your own separate things this year bc next year you will be married and want to do the holidays together.

ITA!!! although my FILs would throw a fit if i did this...but if the families are okay with it, i'd say do it......unless you could go for part of the night to one and part of the night to the other (depending on the locations......)

I would say split up since this last time since next year you will be married and will both have to make the decision. FH and I usually split up on Christmas Eve too...it stinks!

I'm confused... if FH's parents are renting a hall - couldn't your parents be invited?

good question. but i guess not cuz my family is pretty deep rooted in their tradition of going to my moms house... plus it might be a little uncomfortable...
