Help with Dance Lessons!!!

How do you choose who is good/bad? Take a sample lesson? Is there a 'ranking' of dance studios?

Thank you

We used Cooperative Partners (ads on this site). Victor was great! There was no contract so we took one lesson and really liked him. We tried another couple- they were totally creepy and weird. Victor was just great for us.

I dont think there is a ranking of studios (and even if there were, that would help you b/c it would depend on which instructor you get). But most good dance instructors are professional or competitve dancers...so if you have their name you can find if they are nationally ranked or not.

Thanks Stef and Michelle!!!
I am also looking into the possibiilty of taking a lesson with another couple (we need to find a couple first), to learn the same dance, but change the songs, based on what their song would be...
I am looking into these guys below
http://www.shall-we-dance.com, but also considering Fred Astaire, Dancesport, maybe Slavi and possibly a few brooklyn/russian studios (which are bit cheaper than manhattan).

One of my bridesmaids bought me and my FH dance lessons at Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Garden City (Long Island). She's a dancer, so my guess is she knew where to go!

Ive heard good things about Shall We Dance and Dancesport...but I believe DanceSport is geared a bit more to a professional dancing crowd than novices. Slavi works at Fred Astaire in Queens and they are very good at teaching novices.

hm, interesting, I didn't know that they catered more to professionals.

We're going to try dancesport for group lessons for salsa during the month of March with our friends, who raved about their dance lessons at the studio for their own wedding about a year ago. But their privates are a bit more pricey than Fred Astair or Shall We Dance, so I'll see.

We'll also test their group Viennese Waltz this thursday, after the half hour private insturction at Fred Astaire...

I think all studios these days are pretty reputable, but you kind of just have to get a feel for the instructor - you are better off with someone you are comfortable with.
